Chapter 1

Light shredding through the darkness above, leaving just as quickly as it appeared. Shortly after, the sky roared and sent a great gust of wind over the land. The beating of hooves echoed through the palace halls and the sound of metal battling metal outside threatened those who called the palace home. A pale but sturdy Draft stallion rushed down a hallway before coming to a skidding halt outside chamber doors. His golden armor clanged against itself as he used his great horn to know on the thick, wooden door.

"My Queen, we must hurry-" His thundering voice was cut short by a young mare who threw open the door and gave a stern warning neigh. "Her highness has yet to deliver! You can't rush these things!" the mare's hide was a warm chestnut color, painted in white markings every now and then. She also had blood on her hide, evidence of what was occurring inside. The Stallion gritted his teeth and thrust his front hoof to the ground in defiance. "The rebels grow closer by the second. If she does not move now she may never move again." He spat his words at the younger mare, who simply turned and kicked the door shut.

Inside the chambers, an older mare lay on her bed, heaving and sweating. Her hide looked like the moon, a single horn adorned her forehead. her golden gaze looked at the other mare as she approached once more. "The Grand Knight is right... I must move or-" The older mare began coughing, blood staining the sheets she was facing. The young mare rushed forward, placing her head under the Queen's neck and letting her rest it back on the bed. "My Queen, you must not overwork yourself. Focus only on this birth. The Sage will be here any moment with your herbs. Please, just save your energy."

The sounds of battle entered the hallway outside. The Grand Knight could be heard rushing toward the enemy and entering the chaos. The Queen's eyes opened, and despite the mid-mare urging her to stay still, she rose to her hooves and faced the open window of her chambers. "Great Moon Mother, I ask for one last favor..." Her voice trembled with a weakness that was overcoming her. The moon seemed to glow a bit brighter, illuminating the battleground in the courtyard below. Before she could finish speaking, the stars began falling from the sky, plummeting to the ground where their enemies stood. "Bless be... Moon Mother..." The Queen offered a small smile before laying back down, finally collapsing.
