A New Season

There was a low grumble of frustration as he blinked several times, squinting as he tried to focus on the shape before him. She was exactly what he needed. He could smell it... the best suited delicacies always had a somewhat... distinct smell. Easy to point out. Not only delicious, but useful as well. Prime specimens. And he needed that right now. The harvest had lacked wretchedly the last season. He knew that his kidney would fail before the end of the season. And his right eye had grown milky and blind with a cataract two years ago. The lack of depth and being able to see on one whole side had become a very big annoyance. So large, he favored finding his new eye over a kidney. He'd get everything he needed this year, but he wanted to see.

Stalking quietly within the darkness after the female, he gave a low, rolling, rumbling growl that seemed to echo in the darkness. The female stilling and shoulders tensing. Her ears twitched some as she tried to catch where the source of the sound came. Her hand gripping the knife at her side tighter. The male couldn't help but smile. As if that was going to save her... it wasn't. Oh no... she would be his. He licked his lips some in anticipation as he stalked all the closer, his eyes reflecting in the night, the rest of him hidden away as he crept along the underbrush after her.

A splash came from the opposite side. A croc lunging at some poor hapless creature perhaps. But it was all the distraction that he needed. Bursting from the brush he lunged for the female. Turning towards him too late, her eyes widening and brandishing the knife, stabbing at him even as he grabbed her, laughing, a grinning sneer on his features as he gripped her neck and squeezed. The female gasping in shock and pain as she continued to swing at him, horrified. Why wasn't he calling out in pain? Why wasn't affected?

In a last ditch effort to escape the terrifying toskal, the female plunged her knife into the milky white eye of the male before. He sneered only a moment, but his movements never faltered. Only squeezing harder, a chuckle leaving him as he looked at her, the knife, still lodged, moving as his eyes shifted to her face. "Thank you, dear." he told her, eyes widening as she continued to struggle, a scream that refused to leave the airways of her throat thanks to the fingers that continued to squeeze. As she stared, something shifted around her neck. shifting and stretching and reaching out as his ruff went wide, her tail lashing and her feet kicking as she was pulled off the ground, an inhuman hissing roar leaving the thing before him, the ruff shaking as he did. This creature couldn't be a toskal. Whatever it was, it was evil, something borne from the very Darkness itself...

It was her final thought as her neck broke with a sickening pop as she went limp in his grip.

Letting the body fall, he finally grabbed hold of the knife and pulled it out, a different, but equally as sickening pop sounding as the eye came with the knife, The Creeper still all but ignoring the blood, already slowed from the stabs that littered his shoulder and chest. Inspecting the cataract eye that was once his on the knife before tossing it to the side and then grabbing the scuff of the female and dragging her limp body away towards his cave. Soon, he would have a new eye, a better eye, all the better to see and capture his prey.
