Chapter 1: A Thingy

Outside of the natural world borders.

Where time and space do not exist, where there is no use for a clock nor the use for the term ‘on time’.

A place where one is simply there.

In a field of calm blue grass underneath a sky blanketed with millions of gold and purple stars as wisps danced and sung their mysterious but wonderous tunes. A place where the gently blowing wind never blew too harshly or too slowly, where everything was even! Never too hot nor too cold.

Only two beings liked to call this realm home as they relaxed in a huge great oak with a great many talismans hanging from its branches.

Gods of Creation they called themselves.

Beings who created worlds that were capable of an infinite amount of possibilities! Stories, stories and more stories galore...to watch their creations battle through the hardships they bestowed onto them so they could eventually cheer when the time arrives for their well-deserved victory?

It was a thrill indeed.

“Do you have any ideas for a new world we can create Inno?” Said a voice that was as beautifully melodic as the wisps that sung in their sky.

A cute but strange creature. He resembled a bird but also resembled a human all at the same time! His hair was as blue as the pair of bird wings and tail that sprouted from his backside, the ends being a snowy white as a pair of elvish ears jutted out from the sides of his head. Big and as blue as freshly cleaned sapphires, his eyes seemed to have millions of stars dancing within them as he looked up at the sky in constant wonder in curiosity. His feet resembled a bird’s and were black and striped with small lines of blue while the skin on his body was fair and flawless with the areas on his cheeks having a small blush to them!

All while he was covered with a simple robe that all the Gods of Creation seemed to don. A long white robe that was securely held together by a golden tie that held all types of bells on them.

A slightly annoyed sigh escaped him as he rested on one of the branches. “If I did then I wouldn’t be sitting here bored out of my mind Saph.” Inno spoke, mindlessly spinning the tip of his dagger on his finger.

Like his partner in creation, the creature who was called Inno had an unusual look to him. His skin was just like his hair, pure as snow or as an empty blank slate. His ears were like his partner’s, elvish while a long tail with a tinted pink end hung off the branch motionlessly. Tiredness and laziness filled his ruby red eyes as he stared up at constantly watched the dagger.

Would putting on a different type of clothing other the usual Creation attire cure his boredom?

Maybe.

Unexpectantly, boredom was quite the common thing no matter what type of Creation God or Goddess you were.

It was an issue the pair had been running into more often than not as of late.

They had seen and heard every story there was out there! The millions of stars that dotted their skies? When they looked closer...the stars were merely the worlds that they had created. Each realm having it’s own unique story.

Some places were magical while others weren’t.

Some places had the concept of a god and others didn’t!

The world was made off how the pair felt on that particular day. Creative and filled with the excitement!

But for today? The purest form of boredom is what they would’ve poured into their world if they were to even attempt making something.

That they didn’t want.

A huff escaped Saph as he turned his head, his wings fluttering a little in annoyance. “Well no need to be rude! I’m merely asking!”

“I’m not being rude, you asked me if I had ideas and I told you no.”

“Well...maybe we can create a world made purely of trees?” Saph suggested as he leapt down from his branch and into the grass.

“We’ve done that before-”

“But not this type of world! Maybe it can be...”

The boy trailed off as he began to pick some of the grass, the blades beginning to float in the middle of his palm before they formed into a small ball. The start of a new world! All from a single blade of grass.

“It can be-”

“It can be nothing. Face it, we’re at our wits end here! There’s nothing for us to do!” Inno exclaimed before he jumped into the grass as well, his tail swishing side to side in irritation as he walked up to his partner.

Since the beginning of time it seemed, his partner has always done this! Always trying to find the good in things, trying to find out new and exciting ways to do things and never accepting the fact that one day? One day, the word ‘Enough’ was a fitting word!

Today? He'd have to understand that there was nothing more for them to do, this was their era of rest. To sit back and enjoy the show of their worlds doing what they do until they eventually found the motivation to start something back up once more.

“Such a Negative Nancy you are Inno-”

Suddenly, their ears perked to something in the far distance.

A faint, strange and foreign sound it was...they had never heard that type of noise before. Something that sounded like a high-pitched cry? No, maybe the squeal of a pig? Or maybe even something akin to an impish scream!

Whatever it was, it sent the two running towards the source immediately.

After all, Gods of Creation were in their own little plane of existence.

They had nothing to fear!

Maybe another God coming into their realm but that was it!

The concept of being alert or being quick on your toes? The concept was a mortal thing, something that they had never experienced a day in their entire existence.

At least...until now.

“What is it?” Inno grumbled as he looked at the small thing, his dagger gripped tightly in his left hand.

“It’s...it’s a Thingy!” Saph giggled as he looked at the thing, his tail feathers moving ever so slightly in excitement as he bent down to try and pick the creature up.

Immediately, Inno stopped him by pulling on one of his partner’s wings.

“Ow-”

“D-Don’t touch it! What if it’s some kind of...of-”

“Of nothing, it’s a thingy!” Saph said once more as he grew more fonder of the crying ‘Thingy’.

The ‘Thingy’, a simple creature it was. It acted like a newborn human all while looking like an animal! A mixture between a panther and a lion it seemed. Its fur was as black as a starless night sky all while it sported a bit of hair on the top of its head and had a pair of seemingly glowing green eyes!

The two had never created something like this a day in their lives...they weren’t responsible for creating animals that could talk nor could walk, only humanoid creatures and that was it! This thing however? They knew no other God or Goddess that could create such a...unique being.

After a moment of silence however, Inno let out a huff. “Should we kill it?” He suggested

“Stars’ mercy, no!” Saph shouted. “It’s so cute!”

“If cute means ugly, then yes! It’s ‘cute’”

Saph narrowed his eyes, he would never understand how his partner could be so rude towards the ones that looked different from themselves! For all he understood, their creations could’ve easily thought that they themselves were an odd sight! But, then again, he knew better than to try and debate with him on the subject manner.

Inno, from the day they both met each other in a stainless white plane of existence, he’s been this way.

As far as Saph knew, he wasn’t changing.

“Should we try to find its owner? I bet they’re worried.” He said as he continued to poke the Thingy’s nose, a rather adorable giggle escaping it each time he did so.

It was confirmed inside his head, this was definitely an infant of some sort.

“Beats letting it stay here for a moment longer. Who are you thinking on visiting first?” Inno hummed.

Saph’s eyes narrowed in thought.

They were only three other Creation Gods.

One being a Goddess that was responsible for Chaos and War, she had always loved getting her sick kicks out of watching her creations struggle for dominance and powered. In a strange and rather frightening way, it only fueled her power! The blood of war, the cries of victory when her creations won another battle...it was all a thrill for her that no one could ever understand fully.

Next was a God responsible for Stories, from what the pair remembered, his plane was stacked to the brim with books! Floating books, books sitting on tables and books being held by strange-looking monkeys that had two sets of glowing blue eyes with glasses! A strange fellow he was, never once did the pair see him loose inspiration for one of his little stories! But, nonetheless, he was friendly.

Finally, there was the leader of all the Creation Gods. She was seen as the one to go to when you were either confused about something or didn’t know where to go! The Goddess of Nightmares, her realm was always coated while she had blood-soaked ghouls walk around moaning in agony. Serious, commanding but attentive. The idea of something slipping underneath her eye? It was a weird thought but it could’ve happened.

“How about we visit Socrates?”

“You think a War Goddess is responsible for creating an infant?” Inno asked in disbelief.

Saph merely sighed and slowly turned into a ball of blue, black and white feathers. He didn’t have time to argue with him!

However, for Inno?

He simply chuckled and turned into a form that was similar to a flock of doves holding tiny daggers within their beaks. It was always entertaining to playfully pick at and mock his partner.  Especially in these situations.
