the various adventures of the ssv nexus

Orinia is the owner and pilot of the SSV Nexus. Before she had the amazing crew she does today she would spend her time doing freelance work and just doing enough to get by, spending a fair amount of her time alone on her ship. Its shocking that she isn't the captain of the ship now but she fears being given too much power and definitely doesn't want to be the one to blame if something were to go wrong, not that she still can't be blamed as the pilot. As spunky as she is and it seems like she would want to be in charge of everything sometimes for her letting someone else take care of it can be relaxing. On the outside Orinia is a total badass. She isn't afraid to put someone in their place and will stand up for what is right. If there is something happening between the crew she will sort through it and ensure that whatever they could be arguing about is stupid and it shouldn't have started in the beginning. Orinia is also very confident in herself and could care less how she looks, she just knows that anyone who wants to be around her is around her because of who she is and not what she looks like. She's also very adventurous and finds so much joy in being apart of the away teams when the group is on a mission. On the inside she is a big softie. She laughs at the corniest things and is almost always smiling around her crew. Orinia has grown to love everyone on the ship and looks forward to all of the ridiculous game nights they have or watching some overly dramatic horror film. They are her family and she will do anything to protect them.

Theo is a fucking genius, He was extremely smart growing up and was able to do tasks in half the time expected like walking, talking, understanding calculus. As Theo grew older he would experiment and create various inventions which attracted a lot of attention. His talents were being wasted in the kingdom and others felt threatened by him so his fathers gave him his collar to remind him of them and sent him off into space to be safe and to explore the universe. He became an interdimensional traveler who was a freelancer and did small jobs to make money while he researched and worked on his own projects. He used to be really lonely when he remembered hearing about how Cassie's ex boyfriend was now out in space and figured he could reconnect with him. It took him ages to find Kaidan only to learn that he was traveling with five others who didn't really need another crew member but were more than happy to have him on board, especially once they heard about some of the things he was making and how much benefit he could bring to their occasional research missions. He joined the crew of the Nexus and has since devoted all of his time developing inventions and collecting data from various planets. He hated being alone so being with an amazing crew that he loves so much was a perfect opportunity to enjoy his life in space. Theo loves being able to travel the universe and wouldn't trade it for anything.

Alenko is a quiet guardian. He grew up on a planet where occasionally a baby would be born with the ability to switch into a different form. It wasn't apparent at first with Alenko but as he grew up there were times where a darker patch of sand was visible or his water had some funky coloration with his tail being a different color or half of him at a time being something else. That's when he noticed he had a second form and had to learn how to harness it. Those with another form are very powerful and it is believed that they are bound to another being in the universe to be their guardian. Alenko's life changed when he was able to understand his second form and easily be able to transform between it and his normal self. He was put into training and didn't get to continue living the life he already was, hoping to become a teacher or someone to help children. Instead he was trained in the ways of the guardians and became who he is now. Alenko is very reserved about things. He'll only speak his mind if he feels it is necessary and never likes to get into the middle of an argument. He was trained to remain neutral at all times and to protect the life of Kaidan, who was who Alenko was bound to. He is almost always extremely calm even in the most stressful of situations and can detach himself from the present and go into his mind to determine the best plan of action. Alenko is also really powerful and can do various things from creating flames to shocking someone but its only possible when in his guardian state. He will not hesitate to unleash hell if something happens to Kaidan and that is the only time where he might resemble being angry. Otherwise he has a very good understanding of his emotions and can control how he reacts to events. Alenko does have a soft heart and will show love more than anything and he is very thankful that he was able to meet his amazing boyfriend Theo and thinks that he might have failed Kaidan many times if it weren't for him and his love.

Before Kaidan started to explore the universe he had a very traumatic life. He was neglected as a child, had trouble finding necessities including food and never had anyone to lean on in times of need. He was alone from a very young age and struggled with himself and who he was. Every time something went remotely right for him there was something else that would counteract it and bring him back to square one. When Kaidan met Cassie things had started to turn up for him. He wasn't struggling as much anymore and she showed him love and compassion things he had never really felt before. He thought his life had changed and was destroyed when Cassie left him for Saren. After gaining his stellar form, meeting Alenko, and joining Orinia and those to follow on the Nexus, Kaidan became a new man. He took everything that had happened to him previously and pushed it behind him. He was no longer going to let everything weigh him down and he was to be who he wanted to be with nothing stopping him. Kaidan is very enthusiastic about everything he does. He loves adventure and seeks any sort of thrill even if there's a little bit of risk involved. Kaidan also doesn't let anything hold him back and always looks for the positive in situations and will never hold a grudge.

Garrus was a soldier before he was apart of the crew on the Nexus. On his planet there was almost always war so he didn't have much of a choice but to be apart of it and fight for his section. He specialized in weapons and was rarely actually apart of the fight. It wasn't that he couldn't fight but he spent a majority of his time modding weapons and perfecting their accuracy and performance. Garrus was good with just about any type of gun and decent with melee but his superiors preferred him to work instead of fighting. Garrus has a lot of patience as he needs it to work with these small parts and puts a lot of attention to detail. He does tend to be hyper focused and it can be hard to talk to him when he is working on a weapon. Aboard the Nexus Garrus was their weapons specialist. He was in charge of any thing that could be classified as a weapon in the ship including any lasers or ion torpedoes apart of the ship itself. He gets to do what he wants to the weapons and loves the freedom so much. He gets to explore their limits and use his creative side to create mods never thought possible and sometimes completely destroy weapons. Not only does he have control over what he does now but there isn't a war looming over his head and he gets to enjoy using his weapons on away missions and spend time with the crew.

Calix is the engineer on the Nexus and he loves that job to death. He was really young when he joined the crew so he was surprised to be given the position of engineer right away. They had Theo who could have easily done any repairs on the ship if ever needed but instead they decided to bring him along. He's enthusiastic about what he does and every project he works on and will put all of his effort into them. Calix knows that if he half-asses the job he'll just have to come back and do it again and as the only engineer on the ship there would be no one else to blame but him. Being the only engineer does bring some difficulty for him because he gets stressed out if there are multiple things that need to be done at once and it can get a little overwhelming for him. He knows he can ask Theo for some help but he finds pride in knowing he was the one that did everything. Calix also knows exactly how things should go and doesn't want to risk Theo doing something slightly different, and while it might work it could confuse Calix later on when he needs to work in the same section as Theo had previously worked on. When Calix isn't spending time working on the ship he's usually being a huge nerd. He's either reading a book, watching some sort of sci-fi movie or show, or playing a game. He's always the one on the ship to start a game night or movie night and it take a whole lot of persuasion for it not to be something completely nerdy. The rest of the crew do, however, very much enjoy when he does put stuff together and it brings them so much closer. Personality wise Calix is a total gentleman. He's caring, sweet and always puts his feelings last. He'll help out with anything absolutely no questions asked and he won't hesitate to volunteer where help is needed. Calix can be on the shyer side with others he hasn't met before but it doesn't take long for him to warm up to them and he'll quickly start to go full nerd on them. He does however restrain himself and tries to get them to talk about themselves instead and learn about them instead of boring them with his endless engineering terms and wild theories.
