Featuring: 1860 Evarinya, I119 Cyrenne

---

Evarinya wasn’t quite sure when the pattern had emerged. She had not planned on showing up for stories and to help Cyrenne and Liana, but for the past week she had been breaking away from the others in the early morning, and heading to Cyrenne’s house.

This morning was different however. Instead of working on building festive chimes, there was an assortment of older chimes hanging around and across the table. Some had strange spirals attached, in a glittering manner. They resembled the chime for a Quirlicorn who wandered the regions, but somehow different. They felt different.

“What's all this?” Eva asked, as Cyrenne came around the corner.

“You are here early,” Cyrenne said with no small amount of amusement.

“Yes, I couldn’t sleep. What's all this?” Eva asked again, staring at the old chimes.

Walking into the center of the workroom and looking around, Cyrenne smiled.

“It is often customary when a Quirlicorn passes for their children to inherit their chimes. Or, if a Quirlicorn has not bore any children, it goes to the ruler of that land. Sadly, some are lost to time, but many larger families collect the chimes of their ancestors and keep them as a way to honor their memories,” Cyrenne explained.

Eva wandered forward, looking at them more closely. “What are we doing with them?” Eva questioned, examining a rather large set.

“I offered to clean them and fix what may be getting worn down,” Cyrenne said with a smile.

Eva nodded, and the pair got to work.

Cleaning the chimes was fairly easy, but the interspaced spirals kept catching Eva’s eye.

“Cyrenne, what are these spirals?” Eva asked curiously.

“They are, from the way I understand, sacred. They were modeled after a Quirlicorns most sacred thing - their horn. Only the best who had done much good in their lives were rewarded with sacred spirals to add to their chimes,” Cyrenne explained.

Eva tilted her head. “But what about Feriae and Fenrin? They have antlers instead of the traditional horn,” Eva queried.

“The Sacred Magics work in strange ways,” Cyrenne admitted. “I do not entirely understand it myself. But it seems that the Sacred tree and the Sacred dew that rest beneath can have an effect on how Quirlicorns develop in the womb. In the case of Fenrin or Feriae, their magic is just a bit different. Instead of being worked through their horns, it is directed through their antlers.”

“But why then can some use their magic with their whole body?” Eva asked, examining a spiral.

“From the way I hear it, it is easiest to direct through the horn. When I first gained magic in this form, I could use it willy nilly. But as I grew stronger and understood it better, I realized it is easiest to direct through my horn.”

Eva nodded to that explanation, and they worked silently for another half hour.

“So… all these chimes with spirals attached. They were strong with magic?” Eva asked.

Cyrenne looked at the set she was polishing and tilted her head. “Strong of heart, yes, perhaps strong of magic as well. But being positive and connected with the world seems to be the most common factor.”

Eva nodded again. “I hope to earn a Spiral for my Chimes some day,” Eva said a bit wistfully, and Cyrenne smiled.

“Keep helping me and I’m sure you will,” Cyrenne teased, and Eva laughed.
