Ongoing Lore
The real reason I made a TH page for the pack. ^.^' I wanted to be able to write out a longform version of the pack lore without overwhelming the onsite page. I'll keep a shorter version that focuses more on the current state of the pack on my den page, and then have the more elaborate version here.
Founding
Pyrite and Diopside met by chance. Two dispersal wolves from separate packs, eager to leave their old lives behind. Each of them had been given different names by their packs, but they were more than happy to discard those names as symbols of a life that was no longer theirs.
They crossed paths and found that they got along easily. Diopside appreciated Pyrite's charisma and easygoing nature, and Pyrite admired Diopside's quick wit. They decided to travel together, in search of a pack that was better than the ones they had left behind.
As they went, they got to talking. About hopes for the future, and about what kind of a pack they hoped to find. Ideas that started with "If *I* were in charge of a pack" started to get more and more ambitious. The pair did find other packs, but discovered that none of them quite measured up to the image they had built in their heads. It started to seem like they really only had one option- to start a pack of their own.
They picked a name for their pack that reflected the way they felt about their ideas- a name that conjured images of something precious that shone gently among the dusk. They gave themselves new names to match, and found a peaceful-seeming stretch of territory that they could lay claim to.
While the two agreed to share the leadership duties of the pack, it quickly became apparent that Pyrite had an easier time appealing to other wolves, and so he became the public face of the pack, and took up the title of Alpha. Diopside was called the Beta, although the two shared power largely equally.
The first wolf that joined them was Zircon, another dispersal wolf who found that he liked the proud nature and lofty dreams that the Lustre leaders held. He didn't always understand the way they explained complex social systems, but he could tell that they intended to treat the wolves around them kindly, and that was good enough for him. It was Diopside who suggested the name Zircon for him, and while he didn't entirely grasp WHY he should change his name, Zircon seemed nice enough, so he agreed to it.
Next were Orthoclase and Spessartite. The two were fleeing from their old pack. They had fallen in love, and Orthoclase had gotten pregnant, something which was strictly forbidden for wolves of their rank. Fearing retaliation, and wanting to protect their pups, they ran away under the cover of dawn. They came to Lustre territory believing it was unoccupied, and searching for a safe place for the pups to be born. When the members of the pack found them, they were happy to invite them in. The couple were glad to change their names, hoping that it would help keep their old pack from learning where they had gone, and they named their pups in Lustre Pack's fashion as well.
The pack was small, but it had found a strong foothold to start with, and Pyrite and Diopside were proud to call it thier own.
