Rainy Days

A normal person would consider this a bad thing, especially when rainy days were used to symbolize sadness. . . break ups, death, loss, those were all events that commonly happened on rainy days, particularly in media. Akaashi Keiji, someone who rather enjoyed literature always found this odd and amusing because rainy days were often full of happiness and warmth for him. The male knew though that not everyone could be as fortunate as him, not everyone was so lucky that they got to have Oikawa Tooru by their side on cold gloomy days such as this.

He was well aware how lucky he had gotten, the fact that the third year showed interest in him he figured was a miracle alone but here they were, cuddled up in Akaashi's bedroom, wrapped all in cozy blankets next to a window just talking idly and enjoying each other's company as cars passed by on the road outside. This was heaven on earth for the both of them, a time where finally their busy lives could be set aside, a time where they could just have each other.

and that's all they needed.

"Kei~ji~" Oikawa hummed out, breaking one of their many bouts of comfortable silence. It wasn't something he had really experienced before dating the raven haired male, but he never exactly complained about it either.

"Yes Tooru?" Akaashi spoke, looking up from his book and glancing behind him at the taller (albeit only slightly) that happened to be holding him. He couldn't help the small smile that formed on his lips at meeting those smooth brown eyes that shined with nothing but love.

"ahah nothing~ just felt like getting your attention for a moment, hadn't seen your beautiful face in-" Oikawa started off but was cut off by the small laugh Akaashi had only been able to let out around him. A sound that was holy and precious enough to bring even angels to their knees.

"In a couple of minutes, Tooru, I'm sure it's only been a few minutes" although his expression doesn't change, Oikawa catches the gleam of amusement in Akaashi's dark eyes. It was a particular thing that only Oikawa could see and thats why he sought after it so much, so often he would sit and think of dumb cheesy things just to see his boyfriend use those eyes.

"Aah~ I've been caught once again~ I totally thought you had lost track of time, you looked so lost in your book that I thought I had you~" a soft laugh leaves the brunette before he gently plants a soft kiss to the younger's cheek, which in return flare up to that magnificent scarlet colour. Another thing Oikawa loved to do, see how much he could embarrass and fluster the other before he got scolded (which always ended in cuddles anyways)

"Tooooruuu-" Akaashi huffed out and leaned against the other, snuggling closer and burying his head under Oikawa's chin while the wind outside picked up causing it to feel colder in the room. At this point he had slid his bookmark back into the page and set it to the side, just knowing it was time to give Oikawa attention before he got too pouty.

When Tooru was pouty, Keiji got teased.

The rain beat down harder against Akaashi's window, causing him to glance up at it in slight awe. The sky had darkened as the storm got worse, meaning street and car lights had been turned on and up. This was another thing Akaashi loved about the rain, the view he got from the window, from the safety of his room where time only existed if he and Oikawa wished it to, this space was their world after all. They got to control it.

"Hey, Keiji?" Oikawa spoke up again, pulling the male once more from his peaceful thoughts. This time, the pouty playfulness was gone which honestly pulled a breath of relief from Akaashi, he was safe from the teasing for now.

"Yes, Tooru?" Akaashi had glanced up yet again as he spoke, he knew the other had something on his mind and would gladly listen to his thoughts.

It took a second for Oikawa to speak as he met the eyes of the ravenette in his arms, then slowly, he glanced out the window where Akaashi had been lost in his mind seconds prior

"I was just wondering, why do you like the rain so much Keiji? I never understood how anyone could stand a rainy day inside over a happy sunny day but ever since meeting you, it's turned into my favorite type of day. . ." his tone was warm and gentle, filled with curiosity too.

Akaashi thought on this for a moment, glancing back outside, taking his time to think and enjoy the comfort of the other's arms around him. How could he not enjoy this?

"Well" he starts, moving one of his hands up to hold Oikawa's, making sure to intertwine their fingers as he began again "Besides the obvious answer that it suits my personality much better than a sunny day, I would have to say that there are a few reasons." a small pause, in which he could feel the third year nod before placing his head down on Akaashi's, prompting him to continue. Honestly Oikawa just wanted to hear his voice.

"For starters I really enjoy the feeling I get inside listening to the downpour, it's a calmness and assurance that everything will turn out fine, that rain is natural in our lives. But that honestly must be the poet inside of me, where I wish to romanticize everything in nature." another soft head nudge to get him to continue, he silently cursed the fact that Oikawa could always tell when he had more to say.

"I also like to believe it symbolizes growth, change and strength rather than doom and sadness. . . although that is a new thought" his murmur sparks Oikawa's interest and prompts him to actually respond.

"Hm? What do you mean? And what turned you to that conclusion?" Akaashi felt relieved that there was curiosity in Oikawa's tone rather than judgement.

"Well. . .I only arrived at this conclusion after our first attempt at a date." he could feel Oikawa gulp and knew he was still embarrassed about what had happened. This brought out Akaashis' laugh again. as he gave a soft squeeze to the other's hand. He remembered it like it was yesterday, they had met up a few times before at little setter meetings organized by Karasuno's Sugawara and the year before when they happened to be watching Finals and bumped into each other. They had surprisingly exchanged information and got to know each other better over text and sometimes calling (which Oikawa had requested so frequently that Akaashi finally gave in)

Their first date had consisted of Oikawa spontaneously showing up at the Akaashi household, absolutely drenched because it was storming and Oikawa had forgotten to look at the forecast. Akaashi had no choice but to bring him in and have him dry off while they waited for the storm to pass... It was a memory Akaashi was fond of and often looked back on it.

"Our first date? Really? I was so lame, I couldn't even think properly. I was so stunned because that storm came from nowhere!" Oikawa chuckled out, pulling Akaashi from the memory only to nod and chuckle too.

"But we grew from that experience didn't we Tooru? We changed for the better and our bond grew stronger. All because of some rain, there was no sadness... well besides those drenched flowers-" a huff from Oikawa which made Akaashi nod "-I know I know. a sensitive topic. But we grew closer and I remember that was the first time you were bold enough to hold me, honestly I thought it was quite romantic, but then again I do have a writer’s outlook on life. What about you Tooru? You stated you’ve started to like them more, do you have a reason?”

Oikawa chuckled at the romantic comment but nodded “I will have to say my timing was pretty spot on with our first kiss huh?” Then he took his own time to think.. A small soft smile forming on his lips. “I think really I only like them because of you honestly. . .rainy days used to be dark and gloomy days for me. But ever since meeting you I look forward to them because I know that, either we can have moments like this or I can sit back and think about you” he hums out.

Akaashi didn’t know if it was intentional but this comment made his cheeks flush “Tooru that was rather cheesy of you-”

A laugh sounded from the brunette “excuse you but you were pretty cheesy too, Mr. Poet bringing up our first date so you started it!”

“I did not”

“Did too”
“Did not”

“Did too”

“Did n-”

Akaashi’s argument was cut off when he was given a small squeeze from the other, and a small peck to his cheek to which he responds with a look, the look Oikawa would recognize as a half baked threat to sleep on the couch and when that nervous ‘i messed up’ expression came across the Captain’s face, a laugh would leave Akaashi.

“Ah you’re learning. . very good Tooru. Don’t worry-” He leans up and plants a soft kiss to the other’s lips before a soft whisper

 “I forgive you”

And with that, Akaashi would settle back into place with Oikawa; Allowing the other to hold him in his arms under the warm blanket they now sat facing each other, continuing their usual idle conversation.

Enjoying each other’s company on this sweet, calm, rainy day.
