Palindrome City
I want to wake up and be free from this endless cycle.
I wake up to the smell
Of brewing coffee and
Sizzling bacon.
At the foot of the stairs,
I see my cat,
Curled up and seemingly
Indifferent to my presence.
My roommate, Bryan,
Is making breakfast.
He says something,
but I can’t hear him.
As I traipse outside,
Taking my morning commute,
I see faceless people pass me.
I reach my workplace,
And I walk by my co-worker,
Ann,
Who beams at me.
I see through her.
I wonder if she knows
I can tell everything about her
Just from her eyes.
As a slave to capitalism,
I have no freewill.
I must do what I’m told,
Please my boss,
Day in and day out,
Pretending to be someone I’m not,
Until I forget who I truly am.
Despite all this,
I desperately hope
Everyday
Could be like today.
I wake up to the smell
Of brewing coffee and
Sizzling bacon.
