"to my future spouse"

To my future spouse,

Nice to meet you. I hope I am doing this right. This is a very weird journey but I'll do my best to make it worth your time! I've gone on hundreds of interviews but nothing like this. Quite frankly, I am a little terrified. But it’s interesting to think that we are starting out as strangers for right now. I can’t imagine what we will become. 

It’s funny that they make us write letters in such a digital world, but this is fine, because I’m pretty old school myself. Firstly, teach me how to love you. Regrettably, I am inexperienced with romance and love and can only touch on the subject as a family-related concept. Based on what I know, I want you to feel cozy, safe, and secure. Once I get to know you, we can share everything. My time is your time, my questions are your questions, and my heart will be your heart. 

Here’s how you will know that I ‘love’ you. I’m by your side. I’ll ask you how your day was because I want to pay attention and know what’s going on. You’ll probably keep hearing me say “Anything else?” or “What else?” when you’re done talking, but just know it’s what my parents always did for me.

Secondly, be upfront with me. If I make you mad, upset, or feel bad, I want you to know that I want to be there for you. I want to support you, not subject you to my selfishness. I’m trying my best with life (since I’m so young) but I’m sure you are trying too. Just promise me you’ll try with me. 

Lastly, let’s make it a moment. I like surprises. Everyday is uncertain. Let’s help each other out and hopefully I can match your pace. On a less serious note, I make a lot of mistakes and I hope you can help me make less! Thank you for taking the time to read this.
