they're too pretty for how stupid they actually act
midi, with 0 social skills, attempts to comfort a man whose s/o just attempted to murder him by giving him a bag of sand
in his defense he also put his one and only blanket on said man but then immediately ruined it with his sand bag gimmick
he also got down to 1 hp while flanked on all 4 sides by 4 attackers but he still thought he could persuade them to stop attacking him because he was 'telling the truth'
also tried to ask a den of thieves if he could stay for the night . kin list

midi is originally from my personal space opera novel project... in this universe certain types of files have gained sentience and in midi’s case they are a song (an audio file) stuck in a pocket space (someone lost their fucking usb drive) so they’ve been isolated in this space for. forever. as long as they can remember, and over time the hardware began to decay, thus damaging and corrupting data inside the usb, including midi. they do not remember what they were or what theyre for, except for fragments of a song

i also made an ambient track for this version of them, its more abstract than dnd au bc midi was more of an experiment and conceptual thing at the time

anyway i wanted to carry their concept over so (handmotions). same themes of extreme isolation and loss of identity. midi has been alone for so long he barely knows who he is even without knowing his past 

this is information he’ll expand on if asked so i don’t think its. spoilers for him. but he was raised in a facility belonging to some order of sorts and trained to memorize vast amounts of information in addition to psionic training. he doesn’t understand the purpose at all but essentially he was an experiment to train someone into a fucking dnd version of a dune mentat on top of having psionic capability + never needing to eat, sleep, even breathe. basically a human computer. raised to suppress emotions so he has a very flat demeanor but he actually feels a lot of things, maybe not fully bc he’s always a little... out of it... and having been told to suppress emotions for so long w very little real interaction outside of feedback with his training/taking commands, he.. blanks out on social interaction

 he goes for the path of least resistance, doesn’t particularly care for morality tho he leans more towards good simply bc he thinks it is Not Nice to kill people, however he doesnt have qualms abt doing so, extremely low energy, quiet, blunt, and has NO SENSE OF FEAR 

he doesn’t need to eat or sleep so he doesn’t feel the need to really take care of himself unless absolutely necessary... plus his lack of fear makes him stupid bc he underestimates the severity of situations constantly and its, bad. hes like a fucking giant land tortoise u live for so long without any natural predators and ur fear instinct just gets yoted out of ur psyche. but also he was never taught to value himself or his life so despite being so lethargic he’s somehow stupid reckless. he doesn’t understand why everything happens so much

IF HE WAS LEFT UNSUPERVISED I WOULD BE TRULY AFRAID FOR HIM BC IT WAS ONLY BY SHEER CHANCE OF SHANE DMING AROUND HIS IDIOCY THAT MIDI DIDNT GET ROBBED BY BANDITS IN HIS SLEEP OR FUCKING KILLED WHILE TRYING TO TALK TO THE 4 PPL ATTACKING HIM midi gets mortally wounded while trying to peacefully end a fight and his emotion while is just *vague disappointment*

he doesn’t draw his weapon unless other ppl are involved so i believe if driscoll didnt rush in he would’ve been like ah well it was a good run *gets killed* he’s like, only a little sad he never got to find out abt his origins, it was a shot in the dark anyway and there’s probably no way it’ll happen, he fucking made his peace ages ago

but im hoping that interacting with people will give him new perspective on living

as of right now he is only on this quest out of a vague curiosity rather than a burning desire to know who he is, but as he meets people with stronger personalities and different motivations i think he’ll start to see there’s more to life than the hundreds of years of being alone 

outside of his inability to express himself he’s honestly pretty earnest and sweet... he. does not have a good sense of time or place and is fucking tactless but he means well. the type who looks at u and hands u armor and says u look like u may need this. accidental insult 

he is also extremely. touch starved, however has no idea that he is currently but i lament to be someone he gets attached to bc that’s embarrassing. midi would love hugs. positive physical contact instant serotonin rush
