Bella looked at the bat in her hands, light blue, cool to the touch. Surprisingly lightweight. She was brave- sure- she could do this.

The water was choppy today. Choppy and warm. The edges of her dress and the bottoms of her paws were slightly damp with seawater, but she was okay with that. The idea of drying herself off and taking a nice, long nap next to a warm fireplace later got her through it.

The shape of the turtle under the water was a bit telltale of its presence, along with the way the filtered sunlight caught the edges of the crystals along its shell. It was very pretty, like rock candy. Mm, rock candy…

Wait, was it coming closer? Oh, dear.

Bella backed up, on sheer instinct, as the creature breached the water. Every fiber in her body reacted at once as her bat came down on its head with a loud THUNK. The starsheel turtle made a sound, which she didn’t know they could do, and began to swim off into the deep again, leaving a trail of bubbles and light behind itself. Bella sighed, looking her bat over for dents before she turned and began heading back to shore.
