Introduction
As this list suggests, here is my extensive list of my favorite OC pairings in fiction, both original and in official pieces of media. I view my favorite pairings as actual ships sailing on the ocean. Please keep in mind of the context of my ships because not all of them fulfill the criteria for a romantic relationship; you’ll also find plenty of platonic ones as well. If you look up the word in the dictionary in context of two or more people, it is defined as the way in which two or more people or groups regard and behave toward each other; the way in which two or more concepts, objects, or people are connected, or the state of being connected; the state of being connected by blood or marriage; an emotional and sexual association between two people. My criteria for shipping is somewhat different…there has to be some common ground between two or more characters and the intent of what I make them out to be through their interactions.
My fleet of ships are divided into several categories:
- OC x OC - Relationships between two OCs
- Multiships - combination of relationships between multiple OCs, be it platonic or potentially romantic in an AU
- OC x Canon - Relationships between an OC and a canon character from any given piece of media. Often portrayed in crossover AUs where the OCs host the canon characters as their guests, though the canon character stories are played out in the OC world.
- BrOTPs - My favorite friendships
- Self-inserts - Basically inserting myself within a given piece of media
