Dr. Anomaly rushed through her lab, needing to get somewhere that one of her colleagues had told her to go to. Apparently, there was some trouble going on in that room and she wanted to help fix that. Order was always something she preferred over chaos; you know? And plus, since she was technically a possessed doll with the soul of a scientist, given a second life in this very lab. This place meant a lot to her. She just couldn’t let this place be destroyed just yet.

As Anomaly got closer to the room she was directed too, she could hear the panic from her comrades from inside the room. She had dealt with frightening things beforehand but, what she was about to walk into was something that she never would’ve expected. At all. Even as an experienced scientist, she couldn’t predict to see a literal portal inside the room.

“What the...” The plush scientist said in shear confusion and bewilderment. How did a portal of all things open up right in the middle of her lab? And why here in this specific room? What could it have meant? Even she wasn’t sure about that.

“Anomaly!” One of the scientists said as she took notice of her entering the room. “I actually didn’t think you’d be able to come around, especially considering you’re conducting a study on the human soul at the moment…”

“Makes sense,” Anomaly said in a somewhat brisk manner. “But I don’t like to see my lab in chaos, you know? It really gets in the way of science…” She muttered out the last sentence in such a quiet tone that it was near to impossible to hear what she had said. Whenever she muttered like that, it always showed she was either paying attention or stressed. In this case, she was both.

“Well, I think I know what you’re going to ask next,” another one of the scientists said. He had predicted that the living doll was going to ask about how this portal got there, which was actually a correct theory. “It actually wasn’t a mess up this time, Doctor… We just came into work today and well… This portal was there. We don’t know how it got here or where it leads and we’re unsure if it’ll close anytime soon. Everyone who is here at the moment wanted to come get you because, well. I know you like to study that stuff, so, we presume you know something?”

“At least I have something cleared up about it,” Dr. Anomaly said with a now thoughtful tone. “I haven’t studied portals or dimensional rifts THAT much but I’m pretty sure a handful of things that might help us understand why this is here.”

“Do you think you’d be able to tell us or…?” The female scientist inquired. She knew that Anomaly liked to keep her findings secret until she had a good verdict. So, both scientists didn’t expect much from the plush scientist. And boy, did she subvert their expectations.

“Well, I can tell you what little I know. Or, I should say, what little other scientists know,” she said. “So, the leading theory at the moment suggests that portals like this only appear if some sort of, well, anomaly occurs in the time-space continuum. And, of course, these are said to be very, very rare. From what I know, there have been 10 reports of rifts opening up in the last 50 or so years. Which means, that 1 portal opens every 10 years. And I’m pretty sure it hasn’t even been 10 years since the last portal has been reported…”

“Is there anything else that these scientists have theorized about these things? I’m genuinely curious to know more,” One of the scientists asked in curiosity. Since Dr. Anomaly didn’t really experiment with this stuff at the current moment, she decided to go a little further with the other theory that people had about this stuff, with the portals.

“There’s one other theory that I know of at the moment… There haven’t really been many breakthroughs with these portals, though, so don’t expect me to know anything else about the topic,” Anomaly explained. ”So, this theory is basically that universes that somehow linked together in some way can one of these spacetime anomalies and therefore create a wormhole of sorts from one universe to another. Just think of being teleported to a universe that you never knew existed.”

“But what about the ongoing theory of the multiverse? What if it doesn’t exist?” The male scientist inquired, his head tilting a little as he asked the question.

“That’s where my knowledge on the situation ends, unfortunately…” Dr. Anomaly said in a melancholy tone. It seemed like she genuinely wanted to know what was exactly up with these portals, these strange rifts. But there wasn’t all that much knowledge or study on them, which was kind of disappointing. Well, to Anomaly, that is.

“Ah, I see..” The female scientist said, looking back at the portal before them. It was definitely odd that there wasn’t all too much known about them, especially since they happen every 10 years. People would’ve expected to see more studies about them, it was definitely unexpected that scientists didn’t focus on them and focused on the soul more than the rifts. “Do you think we should be able to focus on these? After we finish with the soul?”

“We could, if Anomaly thinks it’s ok,” The other scientist said. Then, he looked over at the plushie scientist. “What do you think? Should we do it, Anomaly?”

“Anything to know more about it,” She said with a shrug, looking over at the rift in space. She wasn’t sure where it would’ve gone and she felt as though it would be better off to not enter that portal. It was something that she didn’t want to do until she knew more about them. “Either way, this is quite mysterious… definitely an anomaly, normally portals don’t form after less than 10 years.”

“Yeah…” One of the scientists said. “It’s an anomaly for sure.”
