Easter Egg Hunt (2021)

Keda had woken up especially early on Easter morning, not wanting to be late for annual egg hunt that took place in the local park. He had always loved doing the egg hunts as a kid, and thankfully this event was for adults and children alike. Quickly preparing a picnic basket for a small lunch after the egg hunt, and grabbing his egg basket as well, he ran out of the house excitedly.

When he arrived at the park he suddenly started to feel nervous, having not expected there to be nearly as many people as there were there for the event. Keda was a rather shy person, usually quiet, and only really participated in larger events when it was something he really enjoyed. After setting up a small picnic spot beneath a large old oak tree, a few feet from where the egg hunt would start, he grabbed his egg basket and got ready to be a "hard-boiled" detective.

As soon as the whistle blew, to signal the hunt to begin, he ran off like a flash to find some eggs. Almost immediately he located a small green egg with polka dots, though a small problem arose when he noticed someone else near it and become quite anxious at the idea of possibly upsetting them by taking the egg that the person was closer to. He was lucky though as the person did not even notice the egg, and ran off to keep looking, so he quickly swooped in to obtain his first egg.

It was only a short time later that he spotted yet another egg resting up in some tree branches; the bright pink with purple stripes making it obvious that it was part of the hunt. Trying to reach for the egg he found himself with a small dilemma, literally, as he was too short to reach the egg even with trying to climb up the tree. Anxiously taking in his surroundings he looked for someone he thought would maybe be okay to ask for help, and as luck would have it he found a rather tall woman who agreed to grab the egg for him.

He continued his hunt, finding quite a few eggs without any issues at all; a green one with yellow flowers, an orange one with a zigzag motif, one that looked like a football, a silly one with a crack pattern featuring a humpty dumpty face, as well as many other unique designs.

The last egg he found though, which he was ecstatic to have found, was sitting gently on a lily pad at the edge of the park's pond. This egg was rather special, he knew that as soon as he laid eyes on it, with its royal purple colouring having been embossed with elegant gold lace patterning. He wasn't sure how no one else had seen it, after all purple and gold do stand out rather well against the green of the lily pad, but he was going to make sure it was his. Trying to reach for the egg he was disappointed to realize it was a bit farther out than he had originally thought, unable to reach it with his hand. Placing down his basket, and grabbing a stick, he decided to try again for the ornate purple egg. Just as he was about to reach it, to pull it closer with the stick, the edge of the pond crumbled beneath him and he fell right into the pond.

Mortified that people would point and laugh at him, for falling into the pond, he looked around with a face as red as a tomato. No one was laughing though, people were in fact rushing over to make sure he was alright. A couple gentlemen helped him out of the pond, the one even having a towel to offer him to dry off a bit, and even gave him a bandage for the small cut on his hand from the stick he had been holding when he fell. As he was being helped a sweet old woman came over to him holding the purple egg, holding it out to him with a warm smile. She had seen how hard he had been trying to get it and wanted to make sure he was the one to have it; the lily pad having sailed over to where she had been standing, after he fell into the pond.

Though he was not the one to get the most eggs at the egg hunt, he was happy with the plethora or beautifully decorated ones he had found, though the purple and gold one was by far his favourite. As it turned out, the ornate purple egg was not an egg he could eat, but was in fact designed as a special keepsake for whoever found it. So now, long after his eggs had been eaten, he still has his one special egg, which he ahs on display, to remind him of how much fun he had at the Easter egg hunt.
