Amalthea's Love Letter
Amalthea's love letter to Faramund.
Dear Faramund,
You will no doubt be surprised to receive a letter from one who is almost a total stranger to you, but I hope I may receive your pardon should the contents of this piece be too abrupt to be considered congenial.
I confess your companionship was a source of purest delight and I enjoyed every moment of the time spent with you. Admittedly I was quite disturbed when I initially heard that I had been arranged to participate in a “blind date”. Despite the polite pretense I try to maintain while in public, conversing with strangers has never been something I’ve been particularly successful with- and I am often haunted by that failure. But throughout our time together, the anxiety that plagues my day to day life never surfaced, and for the first time in my life I was able to find joy in conversation.
I’m sure to one as kind and humble as yourself, such a simple act is akin to a grain of sand in a vast desert. Miniscule, unimportant. But regardless of how small you might perceive your actions to be, you have had a profound impact on me, and I must express my deepest gratitude for the kindness you have shown me.
Before this day I have never had anyone I could consider a friend, but if you permit me, that is what I would like to call you. But even if your answer should be no, if you are ever in need of me, I promise to be there. It’s the very least I could do for you.
I dearly hope this will not be the last time we see one another, for I would like to meet again someday and listen to more of your beautiful stories. You are truly an artist, and you capture my imagination more then any book I have ever read.
Affectionately yours,
Amalthea
PS. In the envelope I have enclosed a tulip taken from my gardens. If ever you are in Faline, I would love to show you sometime. They are my pride and joy.
