Chapter 5

"Finally as an adult, I could do whatever I wanted, go wherever I wished. I left, tried to join the guild. And all that followed after is history."

Our hero became bitterly sad after losing someone so dear to his heart. His thoughts now constantly wandered away into times when he and his younger brother were little children and spent their time with each other. Ion recalled every single day when they were together, every single second of those golden times... just until the moment when everything came crumbling down. Was it the fever that caused it all? No, the child got ill constantly. Was it the unkindness of the town's citizens? No, they were strangers to them from the beginning. Then was it Ion's fault? Perhaps he didn't try to save his brother? No, he tried everything and even more, but Fate was blind to his efforts. Surely, that was the fault of those red barbarians, the Centheria guild! Ion heard how all they sought was Freedom, that they only did what they wanted to do. Well, the choice was theirs, but why would they need to be so ruthless to Ion, making him hopelessly dream of becoming one of them and then shattering his dreams in such a cruel manner? That inhuman act, oh, how it hurt the feeble child! He cried and cried, and months had to pass until the scalding tears dried out from his tired eyes.

And then, the decision was made. Ion decided to leave the town. It brought him memories he did not wish to recall, and it was finally time to start anew. The 18-year-old packed his things in a day (so little he had of them), paid off his family's debts, all of them, bid his goodbye to the dojo members and headed to Roseshire. But what Ion was seeking was not revenge, for it brought good to no one. He sought new beginnings. Although Centheria could offer him those, the boy's heart strongly denied the guild and everything concerned with it. Phericio, on the other hand, meant nothing to the Valthos. It brought him no happiness, but no sadness either. And Ion was content with it. Without long and bothersome reflections, the boy submitted his papers to the guild and embarked on a journey.
