Chapter 1

Velius

// Toxicologist

Working in the labs for days on end had its perks. You were always close to your work, checking in was easy, and the business of the day distracted you from personal thoughts. During lulls, however, Velius' mind wandered to how much he missed the sea. Specifically, the captain he spent his time on the seas with. His dashing husband was quite the decorated captain, despite his age, and Velius missed him terribly.

Seethe could see Velius pining away as he stared out one of the lab's large windows on his break, rain pattering against the windows. The way the human was holding his hand up to his shirt, the Immanu knew he was feeling the wedding band he wore around his neck. It had been some months since Crivio had last left port, and while they had their repliers, it just wasn't the same for Velius.

Seethe

// Scientist

Seethe revered Velius from across the room. Seethe himself was an admirer of emotions. Powerful things they were. Emotions could make a man give up all he had ever worked for and in the same beat emotions could cause a man to kill, blindly without reason. Seethe admired them and wondered what it may be like to suffer under their unpredictable hand. For now, he'd watch and replicate to the best of his ability.

He set aside the scalpel he was washing and slipped off his gloves. He could finish his chores later. For now, he had a friend that needed some cheering up. Or at least some distraction.

"Hellooooooo there!" Seethe's voice chirped directly into Velius' ear. Somehow the large immanu had managed to stride over without Velius noticing. Strange things emotions were indeed. Seethe could have driven a knife between the man's ribs and skip away before he could have retaliated!

"You're looking quite forlorn my four-eyed friend..." Seethe moved to lean against the window pane. His ear flicked as the sound of the droplets pitter pattering against the glass reached him. "Something on your mind?"

Velius

// Toxicologist

In his pining, Velius hadn't heard Seethe's approach. The chipper exclamation of the Immanu did startle him. "Fys alive--Ah, Seethe. It's just you." He cleared his throat, a touch embarrassedly.

As Seethe pointed out his somber mood, he let out a bit of a chuckle. "Ah, it's nothing pertaining to work. You have nothing to fear."

Velius considered leaving it at that, but Seethe knew practically everything about Velius' personal life. They worked together, lived together, the only thing they didn't do was sleep together, practically. The last bit was of course an exaggeration.

"Its... Crivio." The human lamented, watching two water droplets race themselves down the window pane. "I miss him. He doesn't have a clue when he'll next be in Port, and it's been far longer than I'd care to be without his presence."

Seethe

// Scientist

"Hmmm," Seethe hummed thoughtfully. He closed his eyes, grasping his chin as he slowly nodded. "I see, I see... feeling the negative side of love then? The yearning for the person who has stolen your heart with no knowledge of when that delicious desire will be satiated?"

Ah. Emotions.

Seethe reached out and patted Velius on the back. "You'll get to see your magnificent captain again soon, I promise. Best not to lament on the issue, it'll only worsen I promise." He pushed off of the window and walked over to a cabinet behind Velius. He threw the doors open and peered inside.

"I find distractions help lessen the feelings." He tapped a nail against a glass jar with a chimia heart suspended within. "And what's a better distraction than work?" Seethe crooned as he took out a few test tubes along with their rack.

Velius

// Toxicologist

Am exhale of amusement puffed out from Velius' nose. How often had he tossed himself into work to not think about his captain? Far more than a man of his position cared to count. How many times had Velius walked the path of potentially blending the two in his head as one? Also far too many.

He turned his head away from the window and let all four eyes watch Seethe as he went. "I don't know that a chimia heart will be enough to distract me, my dear Seethe." He spoke, his tone still a touch forlorn and pining. "I know that he lives, but his trips across such treacherous waters make me nervous."

Seethe

// Scientist

Seethe turned to Velius, the tray of test tubes grasped between his tragically large hands. "The heart? No, that's a snack for my Amy later." He snickered to himself. "You have an order to fulfill for our mutual friend. Or have you forgotten?"

He crossed the lab and set the tubes out at Velius' workspace. He organized them neatly, tapping a nail against each one to hear it chime. "He'll be needing those neurotoxins next time he drops by but..." Seethe let out an overly dramatic sigh, turning to face Velius once again. He clasped his hands together, resting his cheek against the back of them as he strode across the room once again.

"But my poor, poor, miserable bestie shouldn't be messing around with such dangerous things while his mind wanders aimlessly..." Seethe crooned, his voice taking on a more babyish tone. He reached out, brushing Velius' hair neatly behind his ears with a single claw. "He might hurt himself. Might knick a finger, might kill himself..." He sighed before affectionately brushing his knuckles against Velius' cheek.

Velius

// Toxicologist

Velius rolled his eyes dramatically, chuckling a bit before tilting his head away from Seethe's knuckles. He craved interaction like that, but not inherently from Seethe. "You tease and wound me, my friend. How much lower must I grovel at your feet before you take pity on a wounded heart?" He laughed.

"You may be right, though. Handling neurotoxin in my current state of mind could prove to be a complicated mess. Could I possible convince you to take that order on in my stead? Or at least check in and see when he is meant to pop in next so I know how much time I have?"

Seethe

// Scientist

"I see no blood." Seethe retorted with a grin. "Unless it's internal... you aren't wounded by any description of mine."

Seethe withdrew his hands and glanced over his shoulders at the tubes he had set out. He had no issue fulfilling the order. In fact, he would love to do it. He admired Velius' work and often tried his hand at it whenever he got the chance. If it weren't for the thickness of the gloves he wore he would probably be dead by this point though. Distilling fysa was much less deadly.

"I could, but what's in it for me?" Seethe tapped a nail against his lips in thought. "I suppose just the knowledge and satisfaction of doing work for my dear dear friend Velius? Taking a load off of his shoulders?" He shook his head. "No... I think I'll require something else. The question is, what can you offer me?"

Velius

// Toxicologist

"Well, what is it you'd want?" He asked, raising an eyebrow as he folded his arms across his chest. "Privacy in the lab for the rest of the evening? For me to look the other way with any clients you may have tonight? What piques my dear friend's fancy on this rainy night, hm?"

Seethe

// Scientist

Seethe held up a finger before he began speaking "First of all, I already expect that from you. Secondly, if the prior wasn't true then we're going to have to have a serious talk later and thirdly... I'd like you to bring me a muffin when you come to work tomorrow."

A simple request and an usual one from Seethe. There most likely was something else he wanted.

"And..." There it was. "I'd like for you to handle the front desk for the rest of the day." Seethe gestured towards the rather pitiful lobby their lab had. It consisted of a few chairs and a desk where one of them would sit when appointments were being made. Normally, Seethe was the one who handled that job.

He took Velius by the shoulder and began walking him in the direction of the front office. "I doubt anyone will come stumbling in on a rainy day like today." Seethe sought to soothe Velius' introvert fears immediately. "It'll probably just be a nice, safe and cozy spot for you to settle down in and read a book or whatever else suits your fancy." He gave Velius' butt a good push, sending him stumbling through the doorway and into the lobby.
