Mako and Atlas First Meeting

When they first met, Atlas was sitting on a park bench, his furry friend laying next to his feet. He was enjoying the lazy summer day, getting used to the new place he was in. Recently he was recommended in U.A, one of the best hero schools in the world. He left his home country for this. Left his life behind for it. The boy worried about a lot of things, so much to even begin explaining-- when his thoughts were cut by an excited squeal.

“PUPPY!!! OH MY GOD MISTER CAN I PET HIM!” A loud, excited voice interrupted his train of thought. Judging by the source the person was to his right, hovering over Brick, his lovable dog friend. With the smallest smile Atlas gave a small nod, “Sure, you can pet him. Hes nice” he replied in his soft voice. The stranger gave a quick thank you as he felt Brick sit up and wag his tail to be pet. The stranger kept baby talking the dog. Atlas expected the visitor to say thank you and move on soon, leaving him to his thoughts once more. But that didn’t happen

“May I sit?” They asked. Atlas sat silently for a second before giving another small nod, “Sure, go ahead” he responded. He felt the weight of the stranger plop beside him, as well as their eyes on him.

“What brings you here?” They asked Atlas. “Just relaxing, ya know. The usual” “Are you sure?” The question caught atlas off guard.

“What do you mean?” “Well,,,” the stranger started off “You looked kinda stressed. Lost in stressful thoughts.” Well. They weren’t wrong. But Atlas only offered another small smile “Oh I appreciate the concern but I’ll be fine. It’s not unusual for me” He felt the stranger’s eyes on him even more. Thankfully, they changed the subject

“Do you go to school around here?” They asked, “We seem to be around the same age!” “I got accepted into U.A’s hero course recently.” “Me too!!” They exclaimed excitedly “I also have another friend going too! Her name is Keiko! She’s my best friend! Maybe you can meet her sometime! I wonder if we’ll be in the same class or have rooms near each other at the dormitory--” they kept going on and on which only made Atlas smile. “That entrance exam was pretty rough huh? How did you do?”

“Oh-- I think I did ok? My quirk was pretty good for what we had to do” He said nervously, putting a hand behind his head. “By the way, my name is Atlas, and you are?”

“Oh no I never introduced myself! I’m Makoto! But everyone calls me Mako! Like a shark!” They giggled. Atlas’s mental image changed after that comment. “So is your quirk sharklike? Do you look like a shark?” Atlas asked without thinking

“Oh no! Its mainly because of my teeth! A lot of people call me a monster” They nervously laughed as they began to describe themselves to the blind student beside him “I dyed my bangs pink but my hair is usually this light brown. My skin is yellow, got two horns on my head but one is broke it looks like a moler!! Uh what else,,, i got big claws on my hands and 3 big ones on my feets, a little tiny tail holes in my cheeks so you can see my teeth! I’m pretty monstrous” They laughed again

“I wouldn't say so” Atlas started, trying to put the description to their mind. “Everyone in this world is a little different and weird right? I mean look at me for instance. I have mushrooms growing out of my eye holes, ears, cheeks you name it! I’m infested with mushrooms. And I’m sure theres people out there just as weird as us or even weirder. Nothing to be ashamed of its just who we are” He finished.

“Wow, you sound like Keiko kinda. But smarter!” Mako replied, “Thanks for that by the way, I’m a bit insecure about how I look but its getting better! And dont be so hard on yourself, You’re pretty cute in a platonic way!”

“Well thats the first time anyone’s called me cute” Atlas giggled, “I appreciate the compliment” “It’s nothing dude!!! I mean it!”

Atlas felt his stress and worry melt as they kept talking. They talked on and on about a lot of random things until it became late. Mako walked him home, even though Atlas said he would be fine. He didn’t want anyone to pity him for his lack of eyes but the company was nice. It was nice to have a friend in a new, scary place like Japan. Hopefully they’ll meet again
