Erasmus 13176

Erasmus loved his gardening. He also felt a special kindred with the plants, as if they actually listened to him. People would saw his paws were green, much like humanoids might have a green thumb, and perhaps they would be right. He managed to get his garden to do what he wanted with little work, which was great due to being so easily distracted.

Today was no different. He had been pulling weeds, and had seen one he hadn’t seen before. He went inside to identify it, and couldn’t find the book he was looking for. He started to clean and organize, and found something he had borrowed from a neighbor. That item got returned to the neighbor but on the way home he smelled something freshly baked. He let his nose lead the way and was in line to buy a delicious smelling muffin when he heard a rumor about magical seeds. He lost his place in line and well that’s how he found himself listening to an old vayron prattling on about a merchant claiming to have magical seeds instead of finishing weeding the garden.

Now the melanistic vayron loved his gardening, and the idea that perhaps seeds were magical, well that was just right out of a fairy tale. Most seemed to be brushing it off without a second thought, but Erasmus? No, his mouth salivated at something unique for his garden, so he settled off down the road to go after this merchant himself; asking about said merchant’s identity was the least concern from his mind.

Now any good reader might stop at this point and go but wait, this is about to be a story of how the silly little runner discovers he has no clue what he is after, and gives up and goes home empty pawed. Well, you might be right.

For Erasmus quickly headed down the road and then discovered that even if he did find the merchant, he had no way to purchase any of these magical seeds. So he quickly trotted back home to get his money. Along the way he found the older female again, and remembered he knew nothing about the merchant, and decided to ask for some details. She gave him a vague description of the merchant – male, greyish, fluffy but it could have been a thick furred friese, and perhaps a shorter styled fur of an angora. To boot, she couldn’t remember what markings he had, it could be striped, or a brindle tabby, or perhaps brushed. Still, that didn’t stop Erasmus from being confident about finding him. He had only passed by a few hours ago right? He should be able to catch up if he put his runner build to good use.

So that’s what he did.

The smaller vayron took to the streets, taking the main road northeast out of town, heading towards Roenden’s capital city. If any merchant was out this direction, it was a given he would be headed to the largest city to sell his wares. It was spring, so only little bits of snow dotted the countryside on the road, and Erasmus found himself more than once stopping to admire some roadside plant peeking through the ground as it bravely fought the last of winter’s chill.

At one point, he even stopped and dug up a small plant, finding it quite fascinating as he had never found a hosta with that exact leaf pattern before. He just needed to take one home with him! Of course he wasn’t going to just ruin nature, so naturally he split the plant in half, replanting part in the hole he had just dug up, and taking a part for himself. Thankfully hostas propagated very easily, and were quite hardy. He had heard stories of people digging them up and tossing them out, only for them to regrow where they were thrown, even upside-down! Confident the original plant would thrive just fine, and a piece would survive the trip home, he headed back southwest.

When he arrived in town, the smell of the bakery had diminished to an extent, but he remembered he didn’t get one of those muffins earlier like he had wanted. This time the line was much smaller, and he was able to get to the counter and pay in a reasonable time, only to reason he didn’t have his money on him. He then realized he had forgotten completely about the merchant with the magic seeds, and he headed home on an empty belly.

Upon arriving, the vayron found a nice spot in his landscaping to plant the variegated hosta, and proceeded to properly plant it in its new home. Some ner mulch, a bit of fertilizer, and some water, and the shade loving plant looked right at home. He stepped back to admire his handiwork, and smiled. Sure he didn’t get any magic seeds, but in his book, this was an absolute win. Maybe now he could get that weeding done.

April: New growth, new hope

After the jests of nature and the chilly winter, the spring finally started to show its true colors. Grass has started to get greener, trees showing the signs of growing leaves. And the ground is finally warm enough to do some gardening! There was also some rumours about a traveling merchant who was selling some 'magical' seeds. Are those rumours true?

What will your reosean do?

Will your reosean search for the merchant to acquire the rumoured special seeds? Will they end up acquiring some normal seeds to plant a small garden for themselves? Maybe the tree saplings will be a better choice? Or maybe they prefer just watching the growth of the nature without joining the fun? There might also appear some good samaritans who would cheat the growth with their magic or jesters who prefer to break some branches with new leaves to put in a vase with water~
