Somewhere at the very edge of Desert you might run into a strange rocky formation. A tall rocky cliff, jutting out of the ground towards the sky. It’s been around for longer than anyone can remember and only old stories passed down through generations tell the strange tale of how this cliff came to be. If you find yourself visiting Desert, the locals will be happy to tell you a story that goes like this:

As the tale goes, Glitter God and Satan were always rivals just as much as they were lovers. They never wanted anything more than to create a world of their own together, but as soon as they got a chance to do so, trouble started. They each had their own idea of the world they wanted to create, each trying to assert their own will, only to the detriment of their world. Finally, they came to an agreement: They would create a flat world, each taking over one half of it. A simple coin flip decided that Glitter God would get the top half, and Satan was left with the bottom half.

And so, they each started creating their own part. Glitter God created all the lush fertile lands with forests and meadows, rivers and lakes. Even the desert was full of useful resources that people would be able to use to their own benefit, once the world was ready for them to inhabit it.

Satan on the other hand, was left with nothing but barren dirt with not much creative potential. The only thing with any life in this dead, dry wasteland was an icy formation containing a seed vault that he was able to retrieve from the chunks of the Old World.

Seeing how well Glitter God is doing, he grew quite displeased.* He accused Glitter God of cheating at the coin flip, only to get the better part of the world himself. Glitter God replied that, if Satan was as almighty as he claimed to be, he should have been able to create his part of the world to be just as good. Satan insisted that Glitter God has an easier job in his part of the world and if the situation was reversed, Glitter God wouldn’t be doing that well in this part of the world either.

They went back and forth like this for a bit, about who is a more powerful deity, until Satan thought of an idea. Who knows how exactly it came to this, but Satan challenged Glitter God to prove his true powers. Satan wondered, if Glitter God is really as almighty as he claims to be, could he create a rock so big and heavy, even he himself wouldn’t be able to lift? Glitter God promptly accepted the challenge and created the biggest rock formation of all that he created so far. He chose to place it at the far end of Desert; he figured it wouldn’t get in the way of more fertile lands there. A tall rocky wall towered over Desert, forming cliffs over the Ocean on the other side. After placing these cliffs at a desired location, Glitter God descended to New World to attempt to move this newly created formation.

He pushed the giant rocky wall with all his strength- but it wouldn’t budge. He tried again and then again, he ran around it to find a better spot to push- but the cliff stayed in place. Satan gleefully remarked that Glitter God doesn’t seem to be as powerful as he claimed after all, if he can’t move this rock. To this Glitter God replied that maybe Satan should try to move it himself if he claims himself to be the more powerful one. Satan didn’t hesitate; he rolled up his sleeves and pushed against the wall with all the strength he could muster- but again, the cliff didn’t move even a tiny bit. He tried again, to no avail. He asked Glitter God to help him; maybe together they can move the cliff. But it was no use. No matter how hard they tried, they couldn’t move it.

They had no choice but to give up, realizing that they’ve completely neglected the creation of their world while being wrapped up in this petty argument. They had to agree that neither of them is strong enough to move this rock, and that neither of them seems to be more powerful than the other. From that day on, they only focused on creating the world together and helping each other, rather than competing with each other.

Cliffs still stand at the exactly same spot as they did back then. They serve as a reminder to not get sidetracked by silly jealousy and competition, but to work together and help each other reach common goals. People look up to the cliffs with the comfort of knowing that since that incident Glitter God and Satan would never play silly games with the world and people’s lives again.**

Author's Notes

*the stories may differ depending on who’s telling you the story. Some stories make Satan out to be quite jealous and resentful, and others portray this as a more lighthearted and playful argument.

**I have no idea where that one came from, Glitter God and Satan absoLUtely still play silly games with people’s lives. But people want to and have to trust them and believe they only have pure intentions when it comes to their world.
