Erasmus 13176 | Locke 12465 | Kirin 13727 | Pants 002

Erasmus was enjoying the fair, and he had only just got there. There was so much to see and do, and it kept him going back and forth like a kid in a candy store. Oh shiny let's look at that, oh fluffy let’s check that out. He was very glad he was alone because someone was going to get annoyed with him. He shuddered to think of Horai having to deal with him here. That reo would be smashing his face into the dirt and leaving after the third distraction.

There were plenty of other reos that seemed to be just like him though. He bumped into a blue rosette reo who gave him a look of bewilderment. That look turned into a grin, and the two shared a laugh, as they both realized they had been doing the same thing.

“Did you see-”

“Have y-you seen-”

They both started talking over one another and laughed again. Erasmus barely stuttered, which wasn’t bad for him.

“Alright, let’s start this again. I’m Pants, and you?” The other male introduced himself with flourish, and Erasmus couldn’t help but copy his moves for another laugh.

“I’m Erasmus.”

“Alrighty then, now, how about we try to have some fun?”

The pair set off looking for a game, found themselves separated, and back together again in front of a large, angry looking black reosean.

Pants was far more ambitious than Erasmus’s more shy approach, calling out to him.

“Hey you! You look grumpy! Come enjoy the fair with us!”

The pink and black runner hid behind the slightly larger male as the fiery temper turned on them.

There were plenty of other reoseans around, including a simple blanketed female that seemed to be drawing ever closer.

“Why the hell am I here...” Locke growled out, more to himself than to the ridiculously dressed vayrons and humans around him.

A few looked at him in confusion, a couple more in terror at his expression. The scared ones gave him a small smattering of smugness, though it didn’t last for more than a second. They quickly moved on, disappearing into the crowd, just like his brother had.

The only words he told him were “have fun” before vanishing into the sea of bright colors, leaving Locke to fend for himself in this rainbow cacophony of ridiculousness. Who in their right mind would even want to go to one of these?

His flames danced and sputtered from the passing of so many people, though that didn’t bother him. If anyone got too close and got their garish clothing set on fire, it was entirely their fault. They shouldn’t have been near enough to him in the first place.

Now that would be hilarious, Locke reckoned, eyeing up some of the more floofy looking costumes. Or actually, more flammable.

“Hey you! You look grumpy! Come enjoy the fair with us!”

Locke slowly turned, coming face to face with a part of equally garishly colored vayrons. They didn’t even need to have a costume to look ridiculous to him.

One was spotted all over, blue and black and looked like a nasty piece of blu cheese, complete with fluffy legs. The other was just a pink version of the first. Less spots, more stripes, but still fluffy and black and pink. If anything, he looked worse than the first. What male in their right mind would willingly be okay with being pink?

“What the hell do you two want? Why would I want to enjoy this stupid fair?” Locke bared his teeth at the two.

The pink and black one hid behind the other, making his already un-male appearance even more ridiculous. What a coward...Perhaps I will show these two how ridiculous they are.

With barely a thought, Locke expanded his magic, his crown becoming instead claws that went over his own paws. The grass hissed and sputtered as his flames touched them, leaving black marks where he walked. They extended up his legs and ending at his elbows, giving him the appearance of having his front legs made of fire.

“This fair is for children. Children who don’t know the real world, children who don’t know how dangerous it really is.” His face turned from a sneer to a smile, though from the faces of those around him, it probably wasn’t a nice one.

Which was fine. Locke wasn’t a nice vayron. Better to be truthful to who he is than to let others believe in a lie.

Kirin had honestly wandered into the fair by accident. It had just seemed to appear out of thin air overnight, as Kirin had wandered the place where the bright stands and colorful grounds had now made their mark upon the grass just the day before. She wasn’t bewildered or astounded by it, not by far and not compared to some of the magic she had been witness to during her travels. The world was full of all sorts of strange and dangerous magic, yet here stood a fairground that seemed to be anything but dangerous. Well, maybe dangerous to the eyes.

And so she wandered among the other vayrons and humans alike, her long dark ears occasionally flicking in agitation when a shout was heard or a child emitted a loud, ear piercing screech. Blowing her white lock of hair from her eyes, she trudged on through the dazzling lights of the fair.

The bright glow of real fire suddenly caught her eyes, and the dark coated vayron stopped to turn towards it, only slightly hoping that something had caught on fire.

Something certainly had, but not in the way she hoped.

A brute of a puller, coat darker than the night sky was currently wrapped partially in flame, glaring down at two, rather fluffy and flammable looking, pink and blue males. She cocked a brow, enjoying his show of intimidation for a moment before deciding to saunter over.

“Well aren't you just the prettiest firework in show,” yeah, smooth Kirin, real smooth.

Crimson eyes quickly snapped onto her own blue ones, and Kirin copied the open tooth snarl that was sent her way.

‘“Looks like someone got lost,” she winked, her eyes meeting that of the pink fluffball. “Name’s Kirin” she finished, clearing her rough throat.

Both of the males stepped back a little from the flare up of flames. They both had some wispy fur that would easily go up if they stood too close.

Oh, they really picked the wrong vay. Erasmus shuddered to imagine those fiery claws slicing into him. This was a fair for crying out loud, why would someone like that who clearly does not want to be here, actually be here and throwing around fire?

It was then a newcomer drew their attention. The female seemed to be bold, and not afraid at all as she approached them, her words a tease to the hot tempered male. Eramus could picture the whole place going up in flame.

Thankfully, his new companion seemed to know just how to handle things.

“Ah, I see we have a real woman over here.” Pants grinned at the newcomer before turning his attention back to the flaming male. Erasmus had to hold back a chuckle. Flaming, ha. This male didn’t seem the type to be close to anyone enough to get that nickname.

“Perhaps the fair is for children, but there are plenty of other things to enjoy. The food is one of my favorite parts. Perhaps instead you’d like to show us what sort of vay you really are. They say a bunch of the games are rigged. Think you guys can show off some skills? Name’s Pants. Erasmus and I would love a nice little showdown.”

Damn. Pants had a heck of a way with words, and it rather impressed Erasmus. He perked up his ears and his bushy puff tail wiggled slightly.

“I-I saw one of those games back-back earlier where you swing the hammer to h-hit a bell. I don’t think any-anyone won.”

The shy male added in his own two cents, trying not to meet the angry one’s eyes, his long lashes instead hiding his gaze off Kirin.

***

“What do you mean a showdown?” Locke spat out, his flames dissipating a bit.

The new female was nothing to look at, though honestly that wasn’t an issue for Locke. With the other two being more flashy than the female, he found that more ridiculous than the fact that the pink male was more girly than her. Especially with his trimmed fur and dainty collar.

Speaking of, the pink male piped up with his own little quiet voice, talking about some hammer game or whatnot.

Locke snorted, finally releasing his magic and replacing his flame crown to quietly sputter above his head.

“The hell kind of game has a hammer in it? I don’t have hands, you nincompoop. And as you can see, I am no arcanist, unless you have peeled grapes for eyes.”

“I-I, well-”

Locke rolled his eyes, sneering the whole time before locking eyes with the female again. He sighed, thoroughly not having fun in this rainbow circus of iritations. “Fine. Fine, I’ll do the stupid hammer game. But only if she joins in.”

***

Kirin grinned, enjoying the stumbling of the three around her. ugh, males, She thought, shaking her head and strutting around to the other side of the dark coated puller. The juxtaposition of the entire situation amused her and though she was inclined to side with the larger of the three males about the games, she still wanted to see if she could kick his ass.

“Oh I’ll join in, don't you worry about that,” she laughed, tossing white hairs out of her eye. Taking a step back, she raised her head higher, eyes scanning the fairground. Kirin playfully bumped her hind against Erasmus’ “It’s a fair for Humans and Reos, they're bound to have some sort of game configured to our kind”

All four began to walk forward, Locke trailing behind and seemingly grumbling to himself. Kirin almost jumped when Pants shouted in excitement, darting ahead of the pack “There guys! Look!”

Indeed the fair had made cheap carnival games for both kinds of carnival goers, and pants had just happened to spot one. Kirin snorted as Erasmus ran ahead, stopping beside Locke, both eyeing the glowing sign with suspicion.

Do you have what it takes to be a hunter!! Could you take down a deer!! Test your pounce strength here!!

“Who do you think came up with that shitty rhyme,” she whispered to Locke before being dragged over by Pants.

“Yeah yeah, enough of the speal lets get this over with,” Kirin said quickly interrupting the carny. She stood in the appropriate spot, winking back at the others “ladies first!”

Kirin was quick to raise up one of her hind legs, drawing her front paws towards her chest before thrusting downwards on the covered pressure plate, landing with an oomph. She grinned, and quickly looked up to the rising meter, her mouth falling open when the line only stopped a few ticks up, landing on “Puppy”

“THAT’S BULLSHIT!”

***

Locke was quick to try to prove the female wrong. He snorted and pushed her out of the way, stepping up to try himself.

“Oh this will be good.” Pants snickered, bumping Erasmus to pay attention. The melanistic vay was prepared for another flaming outburst, and kept behind his new companions.

The dark vay stepped right up to the plate, and as the meter raised, the smug look on his face fell as it only read at the same line as Kirin. He stubbornly tried again, with yet again the same result.

“HORSE SHIT!”

Well, looks like they had swearing to bond over.

Pants fared no better, barely reaching the same tick.

“This game is rigged! Pink shit shouldn’t even try!” Kirin rolled her eyes at the black male, and gestured for Erasmus to try anyway.

The pink and black male stepped up to the plate, and took a deep breath, grounding himself.

“Hurry it up already!”

Locke was clearly impatient and having none of it. Erasmus frowned and then gave it his all, slamming down on the pressure plate with everything he had.

Tink, tink, tink, tink tink! The meter dinged all the way to the top, ringing a bell with a loud buzzer and glitter.

“NO WAY!”

Kirin was holding back Locke, laughing her ass off the entire time.

“THIS GAME IS RIGGED! I WANT A REMATCH!”

While the other male was convinced that somehow Erasmus was rigging the system, the rosette male brought over the giant stuffed animal that was his prize for winning. Erasmus himself was flabbergasted.

“Good going kid. Let's keep having fun.” Pants winked at him while Kirin nodded in agreeance. Perhaps the fair would be nice after all with his new companions.
