puddlekit, crouched down in the corner of the camp, watches the cats go about their daily routines. this was.. what… their second day in gloryclan..? they still weren’t used to it, to be honest. the whole thing was strange.. but it was better than living out in a clump of grass far away from this place, he guessed.

he wondered about what life would’ve been like if he had stayed with his parents. boring, most likely, as they both never let him go outside. ever. so, they guessed it’d just be best to stay with the clan. not like they could go back anyways- the town was too far away for them.

——

After her first night in her new nest, Spiderkit wasn’t happy. Even though she had Mothkit as company, she didn’t enjoy sleeping on her own and missed Beef, and hoped he would come join her in this strange new place. Her new home, apparently. Still, she pushed down her complaints and tiptoed out of the nursery burrow, disturbing none of the other kittens still there.

Eyes squinting in response to the bright light compared to the dark burrow, Spiderkit stood there until she could open her eyes more. Once she could, she surveyed the camp with adamant curiosity. She noticed one of the kittens, a gray tabby sitting by himself at the edge of the camp. And her interest piqued. Why was he sat on his own? Was he okay?

Waiting till it was safe, Spiderkit slowly trotted over towards him. She noticed he was one of the older kits and almost drew back from her advances. Ears fell flat as she got close enough for her to be heard.

”Ah! H-hi?”

——

continuing to scan his surroundings, puddlekit had barely noticed spiderkit drawing nearer until she spoke to him. he had to stop his fur from puffing up in shock as he heard her, but he turned his head with an awkward smile to face the black she-kit, who was standing next to him with her ears flat. they wondered why she seemed so nervous.

“hi!” they said, voice a bit shaky. they sat up, licking their tail for a quick second to smooth their fur as it had spiked up despite their best efforts. they then turned back to spiderkit, tilting their head off to the side as they spoke. “what’s your name? i don’t think i’ve seen you around here yet.”

——

She watched them cautiously, tail waving behind her in greeting. Slowly, she settled down on her haunches, shuffling her paws closer to her belly. Leaning her head to eye Puddlekit’s large pelt and frowned. The she-kit had to bet that they were very warm, and she envied him. Spiderkit wanted a big pelt like that..

”I-it’s Spiderkit,” the kit replied, almost forgetting why she even approached them. Clearing her throat, she looked over her shoulder for a split second. “Ah, are you okay? Y-you looked l-lonely,” she whispered, falling quiet with her gaze downcast.

”S-sorry, I can go?” Spiderkit added, paws shuffling against the dirt absentmindedly. She didn’t lift her gaze to make eye contact with Puddlekit.

——

puddlekit quickly responds. “no, no it’s okay! you don’t have to go!” he says, trying to keep his tone reassuring. “also, i’m not really lonely. i just…. like watching things..? i guess? it seems creepy i think so i probably shouldn’t do that. also i’m just not the.. greatest at starting conversations i guess. so i just sit around. yeah.”

lord, he spoke fast when he was nervous. VERY fast. a bead of sweat formed on the side of his face, and he worried that spiderkit wouldn’t even be able to understand him since his words went by so quickly. oops.

——

Spiderkit nodded in response. She was thankful they didn’t send her away. She didn’t exactly want to go into the nursery burrow again and it’s not like she had places to be.

She hadn’t expected the fast-paced words from Puddlekit and despite trying to keep up; she got lost around halfway through. But! caught onto some things and used that to form her reply. "W-watching things is fun," the kit speaks up. Although, she did wish she could speak easily to cats and make friends without fear of them laughing at her. But it felt safer to just not bother.

“Do.." she paused, wondering if her wording wasn’t weird. “Do you have a name too?"

——

oh! puddlekit had completely forgotten to give her his name.. “yeah! my names puddlekit.” he smiles at her. “my other name was bailey, but those two cats that found me gave me.. a new name? i guess?” they shuffle their front paws. puddlekit thinks for a moment about what to say next.

“and yeah, watching things is really fun. i like learning! i know lots of things. like.. uh……” they think for a moment, but eventually give up. “i don’t really know. only been here for a day, but, i think i’ll learn some more stuff eventually… hopefully.”

——

"P-puddlekit," she tried the name on her own tongue, her expression squeezed into a look of concentration. There was nothing wrong with his name, just the naming system entirely. Why couldn't she simply keep being called Kiwi?

Instead of mulling over names, the black kit kept quiet whilst Puddlekit spoke. The idea of learning new things was not something she particularly looked forward to. "I'm sure, uhm, I'm sure you'll learn lots of things."

——

“oh yeah, hopefully!” he smiled at spiderkit. “i wanna learn lots of things about this clan, especially. it’s called gloryclan, right? i wonder how it even started. i have a lot of questions… maybe i should try to ask someone…” at this point he was lost in thought, mainly speaking to himself…

——

"Ah!" Spiderkit looked baffled, tail twitching beside her. "Maybe," the kit stopped, inhaling sharply. "Maybe that Glorystar? Maybe he uh knows?" It seemed logical, he was named after Gloryclan so perhaps he was special in some way? Spiderkit, if she could, would probably go find him if she wanted answers to the questions that Puddlekit poses.

——

“oh, that’s a good idea!” puddlekit said. “thanks! maybe i’ll go ask them soon.”

and with that, puddlekit headed off.
