Bokuto only finds out it's Yuki's birthday because Akaashi roped Toshiko into baking birthday cupcakes. Yuki goes about like it's a normal day. Akaashi sees Toshiko enter the gym and rushes to her. He leans in close, warm breath against her skin, lips brushing against her ear as he whispers "I owe you one"

Stammers out "no problem. She's my friend, too"

Bokuto just be like HEY HEY HEY TOSHIKO BROUGHT US SNACKS?! TRULY THE BEST MOM!!

Akaashi pushing Yuki into the center of everyone

She just be like: ovo can we not??

Akaashi just casually like its her birthday, start singing and be as obnoxious as you can be

Everyone throwing their arms around each other singing so loudly and so off key, ruffling Yuki's hair

Yuki laughing nervously

Akaashi gently brushing his hand against Toshiko's as he stands next to her.

Bokuto just stares at Yuki. Doesn't join in the singing. He's both stunned and somewhat offended she didn't say anything

After practice Yuki insists everyone go home and rest and she'll take care of the clean up. They all wish her happy birthday again as they file out the gym

Akaashi offers to walk Toshiko home but insists this isn't the redeemable favor so he still owes her one

Toshiko, flustered: but what about--

Akaashi puts his finger to her lips and points to the other side of the gym, pointing at Bokuto.

(Toshiko, Yuki, Akaashi always walk home together and could be the first time they go without Yuki)

Bokuto stays behind. Yuki doesn't even notice until she turns to put balls in the cart and he's just looming over her. She's so startled she drops the balls.

"K-Kou! I thought you left with the others."

With each step he takes forward, she takes one step back until her back hits the wall.

"Um...you're uncharacteristically quiet. Is something wrong? I thought you ran your drills perfectly today so why are--"

He slammed his hands against the wall, trapping her.

Bokuto: it's not fair...

Yuki: sorry?

Bokuto: IT'S NOT FAIR. WHY DIDNT YOU TELL ME? I WANTED TO BE THE FIRST ONE TO TELL YOU HAPPY BIRTHDAY

the intimidating demeanor quickly melted away as he whined and slid down to her knees, hugging her legs

Yuki couldn't help but laugh as she pet his deflated hair.

Yuki: it's not that big of a deal.

Bokuto looked up at her, his chin resting against her thighs as he pouted and mumbled out: Akaashi sure thought so

Yuki laughed again and slid down to her knees to level with him. She held his face in her hands, smiling at the heat she felt on his cheeks.

Yuki: Akaashi is a childhood friend who knows my family situation. This is nothing special. He does this every year. I mean, usually it's just with his family, but still. If it really bothers you, we can hang out this weekend. Okay?

Bokuto's face lit up, his large hands engulfing hers as he placed them on top of hers: ILL PLAN THE PERFECT FORGIVE ME FOR FORGETTING YOUR BIRTHDAY DATE!

Yuki laughed: you can't ask me to forgive you for something you didn't know in the first place. There's absolutely nothing to forgive, okay?

Bokuto stared at her, taking in her delicate features, her smile, those eyes he could get drunk off of in all their sincerity and innocence. He leaned in, his body moving on its own. His lips connected with hers in a gentle, warm, and slow kiss. His lips parted from hers for a mere millisecond before connecting again, his hand moving to the back of her neck as he pulled her more into his kiss

He broke the kiss for the final time, pressing his forehead against hers as their noses touched. He chuckled at the distant yet dreamy look in her eyes. He watched her eyes blink before her face completely flushed, realizing what just happened.

Bokuto, a wide smile on his face: I was too upset earlier so I didn't get to tell you. Happy birthday, Yuki
