Chapter 1

A car door slammed shut.  A 13  year old girl looked at the closed car staring at her reflection in the window.  As she put her hair up into a ponytail,  she then examined the cut on her cheek that she had gotten earlier that week. She became fascinated with her reflection in the car’s window. The image slowly changed, someone else appeared behind her in the reflection.  When she tried to look at it, it hurt her eyes and her brain couldn't focus on whatever was behind her.

“Casey, sweetie. You had all the time in the world to look at yourself in the mirror this morning, now you need to come on.” An older woman said as she stood near the door of the building the car was parked in front of. Casey's head looked up, snapping her out of  the trance she seemingly was in.

“Oh, sorry mom.” She turned to walking next to her mother.  The doors of the building read Middlebooks Psychiatric Hospital  in white letters, with the visiting hours listed under it. Casey knew these doors all too well. With her visiting about every week, for therapy, blood work, and other ‘fun things'.  “Hey mom.”

“Yes Cas?” Casey paused after her mom responded. She wanted to ask her mother about the man behind, but the more she thought about it, the more it hurt her brain.

“Uh, you know never mind it wasn’t important.”

“Well whatever you have to say is important to me. So tell me what you got on your mind.” Casey cringed a little at that statement.

“I ugh uhmm, well was wondering,” she paused trying to think of what to tell her mom “could we stop at McDonalds on the way home?” She lied.

“We can if you don't fight the doctors when they do your blood work.”

“Yeah, that sounds good.” Casey said happy that her mom bought what she said and decided no to ask more questions. The two of them made their way through the lobby of the building, and up to the reception desk. The lobby had about six or seven people in it, which wasn’t too unusual for a monday. Casey stood by her mom as she checked in for the appointment.

“So it looks like we have her down for an appointment with Dr. Coleman today.” the receptionist said “along with blood work, and a treatment meeting.”

“Yep , that seems right.” Her mother said. Casey felt a tap on her shoulder as she stood by here watching the people around her. “Casey, you can go sit down. I need to fill out some paperwork and then come sit down with you.”

Leaving her mom’s side she searched for a spot that wasn't around any other guest.  Finally she settled down, and it hit her like a truck. Everything from the past week came to her as she had time to sit and think. But it led to her being flooded with questions; what happened during that time she doesn’t remember? Why was the tall man seemingly hunting her? She had too many questions and no answers.  The only thing she was told was all in her head or it was some kind of mental issue. Casey felt that a hand placed on her knee, her head shot up. An older man was looking at her, and he looked genuinely concerned about her. She recoiled when she saw him, the man did not jump, but she did scare him a little by her sudden movement.

“Oh, hey I didn’t mean to startle you. You just seem like you aren’t doing too well.” Csaey eyes darted to the ground. Her mother made her way over to Casey and the man.

“Hello there, you don't really need to worry about her. She just gets like that sometimes. Isn’t that right Cas?” Casey’s mom said. In an attempt to calm the man’s worries.

“Yes, mom.” Casey, eyes still locked to the ground.

“Now what do you tell, nice man who was worried about you?”

“I am sorry about worrying you Sir.” The response was audiomatic. Casey then turned her attention to the bracelet on her arm. If it was any other circumstance Casey would have talked up a storm.

“I do apologize for my daughter, we've been trying to get her to be more mindful of her actions.” her mother said apologetically.

“Oh no, it's fine. I was the same way when I was younger.” Casey’s Mother gave a sigh of relief. “I am Tim by the way.”

“I am Helen. It is a pleasure to meet you.” She paused for a second. The name sounds like a name that Dr. Coleman had mentioned to her.  “Are you Tim Wright?”

“Yeah, that's me.” Why would she know his last name? Then it clicked.  These were the two that his doctor, Dr. Lancaster,  had told him about. “You two must be the Smith family.” Tim could only feel pity for the kid, because he remembered what he was told about her.

Casey's head picked up when she heard that she was being talked about. She looked at the two adults, she gaze going between the two as they seem to keep up small talk. Honestly she just wanted to go to her appointment now then go home. It was a lot more stressful than she had anticipated this day being.

“Dr. Coleman will be seeing Casey Smith and Tim Wright.” A nurse called. Casey nearly jumped out of her chair to get over to the nurse. Casey had one thing on her mind and that was to get out of here and go home.  She knew if she did everything they said the faster she would be going home. The two adults quickly followed suit, and were shocked how quickly she got up.

“Hey, Miss. Hanna,” Casey's voice was a lot more upbeat when talking to the nurse. “Hey guess what!” Casye felt a lot more comfortable talking to this nurse then she did her mother or Mother and Tim at the current moment.  As Hanna was one of the few nurse that treated her like she was a normal kid.

“What cas?”

“Mom is going to take me to get McDonalds after this.” the nurse smiled as they walked down the halls of Middlebooks Psychiatric Hospital. The two continued talking off and on as they walked Casey to a room so they could draw blood.

“Ok Casey, we are going to have you wait in this room so Dr. Coleman can do the blood work and I am going to take your mom and Mr. Wright here to a meeting room where you will meet us after this.” Casey nodded and sat down in the room waiting for the doctor. The door closed, and Casey felt like something was watching her. She started to fidget more, tapping her foot and messing with her medical bracelet.
