Louise peered out the window, pulling the velvet curtains to the side. She watched with unblinking eyes as the soft puffy flakes of snow drifted almost peacefully down, dancing in the wind. It coated the world in a plush and beautiful blanket of white that glittered and glistened in the sunlight. It looked like everything was coated in crystals. Bits of evergreen peering through the white, a few red berries visible here and there and over all, a true winter wonderland. And quite honestly, she hated it.
Snow was worse than rain for Louise. It not only left her soaking wet, but it also clung to her tail and ears and could be painful to try and pull out before it melted into a complete mess. Everyone was always so excited for the snow and loved going out and playing in it. Day in particular had always loved winter. He loved going ice skating the most though. Well, right next to dressing up cute in holiday themed clothing. He loved giving gifts during Christmas and everything about this time of year just made him sickeningly happy. While Louise usually was on the wrong end of a stray snowball and ended up spending hours drying in front of a fire. Christmas was always hard for her, even when she finally decided that she didn’t need to ever go see her father again for any reason. She was never good at giving gifts and even worse at receiving them. Winter meant shooting a Christmas special for the show and approving that year’s next big toy line. Winter meant being cold and wet and miserable. Winter was beautiful, but it was also beautifully depressing. She looked down as she felt tiny paws step onto her legs, gently reaching down to scratch behind the soft ears of the bluebeary. Jammy yawned softly as he curled up on his owner’s lap, letting out a dramatic sigh as he squished his face into her leg, which always made her smile.
“Now what’s wrong with you?” she asked the little creature, petting him very softly. He answered with another large sigh, tilting his head to the other side to look up at her with the biggest pout on his face. She let go of the curtain and reached down with both hands, scooping up the little creature and she held him up like she was holding a teddy bear. “Is it time for din-din?” she asked, smiling as she moved to touch her nose to Jammy’s. The little creature let out a small sound that was a mix of a tired mew and a yawn. She couldn’t help but giggle as she stood up, putting the bluebeary back on the soft carpeted ground. “Yeah, I think it’s time for din-din.”
She walked to the kitchen, pausing to look out the window again as she watched the snow slowly float by once more. She could only hope that Allyn would get home safely. He hadn’t been gone very long, going to the store with out her because going outside during winter was just too difficult sometimes. She was fine with waiting for him at home, but sometimes being with out him was hard. She got lost in watching the snow fall once more, wondering in her thoughts. It was only when Jammy made a more annoyed sound at her did she snap out of it. She looked at the grumpy faced bear and shook her head, going back to the kitchen. She pulled open the fridge door just as the front door opened.
“I’m home.” Allyn called, making her heart skip a beat. “And I’ve brought gifts!” “Gifts?” she called, pulling out different barriers and veggies, going to wash them at the sink, first putting them in a colander and she made sure to be far away from the water when she turned it on. “Christmas shopping already?”
“Not that kind of gift.” The demon said as he entered the kitchen, setting the many bags down on the counter. Jammy bounced up and down once he saw the man, making happy little squeaks and mews. Louise watched as Allyn leaned down and picked up the little creature with one hand and tucked him under his arm, kissing his forehead as he held out a paper cup in a cardboard sleeve to her.
“I’ve brought a gift for you.” He said with a soft hum. “Spiced apple cider.” He gave her a gentle but almost cocky smile. “Made just the way you like.” Her shoulders sagged a little as she reached out to take the cup with both hands, the warmth quickly spreading across her ‘skin’. Taking a tentative sip, it was the just right temperature even, warming her to the very core. She looked up at the man, who had turned his attention to baby talking and coddling the bear as he turned off the water and dried to fruits and veggies before putting it in the bowl for him. He stood up and looked at her as he unwrapped the scarf from around his neck with one hand and pulled off his beanie with the other. “Is it… okay?” he asked, looking almost concerned for a moment.
Louise smiled at him, gently padding over before she leaned in and placed a sweet and gentle kiss on his lips. “It’s perfect.” She said softly. “Thank you.” The demon melted a little as he leaned in as kissed her back in an almost innocent way. “You wanna watch the next episode of TGBO?” he asked, grinning a little. “I’ll put the groceries away while you get the couch warm?”
“Sounds like a good plan to me.” She said with a soft giggle, kissing his cheek. She left the kitchen and headed towards the living room, looking out the window again. She watched as the snow fell once more. She leaned against the wall to look out the window, a soft smile on her face as she sipped her cider and this time, she didn’t feel cold or wet and miserable as she watched it. No. She felt warm.
