The Jorogumo Queen wished to bring eternal night to all the land and to do this she needed to destroy the Ama-no-Iwato. She believed the only way to do this was to have a powerful son born from the strongest of demons. After laying with many demons, the Queen only had girls; however she would devour them at birth. She heard tale of a Powerful Demon Emperor from a far land named Mattaku, who was said to be cursed to only have male children. Disguising herself as a Geisha she seduced Mattaku, and was pleased to have a powerful son she named Gin.

Gin was everything the Jorogumo Queen wanted, powerful and skilled. She tried to fill him with her hate of the sun and the sun goddess. What she did not know is that at first seeing the dawn, Gin fell in love with the light and daytime. Often he would sneak out to stand in the light of day or in the early dawn as the sun would raise so that he could caress the light welcoming the day.

After fourteen years of training, the Jorogumo Queen deemed Gin ready to help her destroy the Ama-no-Iwato and bring about eternal night. When they found the Ama-no-Iwato, they were stopped by a powerful Priestess. The Jorogumo Queen fought the Priestess while Gin did nothing but watch, much to the Queen's displeasure. After, when the Queen had poisoned the Priestess, and did not have the strength to finish her off she ordered Gin to kill the holy maiden for her and destroy the Ama-no-Iwato.

Gin then did the unthinkable, cutting his own mother's head from her body. He pulled the Jorogumo Queen's soul from it and consumed it, forever killing her. After taking the Jorogumo Queen's soul, he gained all of her power making him the strongest Jorogumo and their King. After Gin killed the Queen, he stayed with the dying Priestess going so far as to hold her and comfort her in her last moments of life. The only words Gin said to her were, "I am truly sorry." though the Priestess said nothing to him she reached up to his face caressing him and smearing her blood on him. After the Priestess passed, Gin found his demon markings had changed, leading him to believe that he was cursed by the Sun Goddess for letting the Priestess die. (Gin's older brother Sai often tells him he thinks Gin is not Cursed but blessed for doing the right thing.)

After, Gin holds no real claim over being the Jorogumo's King, stating he does not care at all. Gin then wanders from place to place find most, if not all, people are terrified of him: a powerful Jorogumo in the light of day suffering no ill effects. In one small village, Gin was attacked by a small group of Tengu thieves. After dispatching them, he took one of their masks, clothing and feathers. With the help of his pet spider, Kaiju, he has fashioned wing-like covers for some of his many legs on his back. Thanks to this, most see an odd Tengu and not a Jorogumo. He uses this to trick those who would fight him. (Kaiju is a lesser spider Summoned by Gin, oddly even the spider minions Gin summons are effected by his Sun Curse/Blessing making all of them glow.)

The former Southern Lord, Isumi the Great Phoenix, is killed by Gin after Isumi tries and fails to kill Sai and the Western Lord. Gin had no real idea by challenging Isumi in combat, before the other two Demon Lords, would make him the new Lord of the Southern Lands. Despite the role of Demon Lord being somewhat forced onto Gin, he takes it very seriously.
