Day 1 prompts

SKY-1A
I feel all eyes upon me, everybody watching, everybody waiting as if I have all the answers, as if I have any answers at all. I’m freezing, the sky and the sea are cold yes but they’ve got proper heating- this, this is terrible, I can’t even handle to LIVE in this place let alone save it. Everyone is relying on me, I’ve been training my whole live for this but when faced with reality it seems as if I’m crumbling. I want something familiar, anything at all.
I look at the cat who’d introduced himself as Pierce “May I have some water?” My voice cracks, I am greatly out of practice speaking on land. He runs off to get it, it’d be a great relief- and this place is so dry, it’s almost hard to imagine a society above the sea after where I’ve been these past few years.
He returns and hands me a… bowl of water? Sure I’d excepted it to be different from drinking in the ocean’s depths, but it hadn’t occurred to me that it wouldn’t be in a cup. Cups were for drinks, bowls were for soup. “Thank you.” I don’t want to appear rude, I don’t want to insult this culture that has graciously accepted me. Doing things I don’t want to do, for the good of the people, now that is something I’m used to, far more than anything else. Something about that makes everything feel a little more familiar, a little more comforting.

LAND-1B
“Why am I here?” I repeat her words, looking up at the tall silver cat. “I thought the superiors explained everything did they not?”
“Yeah they said what they said, I want to hear it from you.” She wants more information, but she does not trust me just as I do not trust her.
“Ma’am I do not mean to deny your wishes but everything that I may share has been told to you already, it would be pointless for me to repeat what you already know.” I dip my head graciously hoping that will be the end of that.
From the first word I can hear from her tone of voice that she has no plans to leave me alone “So you do know more, and you’re not telling!” She sounds triumphant, as if that was some great discovery.
“I have been studying for years, you do not really expect that all of my knowledge was spoken in a mere few minutes, do you?” I meet her gaze again, will everyone here bother me like this?
She shrugs “I have time.” She awaits my response which does not come, I don’t see why I need to tell strangers my life story. She speaks again after a few minutes “Okay fine, be like that. Tell us about ourselves what do you think of us?”
“What do I make of you?” I wonder, do you really want to know? “I think that I haven’t even been here for a day, and I have traveled a long way, I am weary and yet you ask many questions.”
“That’s no answer.” It is true. “You’re a scholar, sent here to learn, so surely you can understand my curiosity.” She seems more poised now, more refined as she towers over me, and also seems more comfortable.
“You’re different from the others, they seem to have an almost… aversion to curiosity, is it all an act or this how they behave here, and why are you different?”
She blinks as if surprised, but her expression remains steady “Oh, it’s no act, the fools may greet you with open arms and open hearts but they wish to know as little about you as possible.”
“You refer to your own kin as fools?” This is most interesting indeed, I pull my journal out and start writing down this new information.
“Like you, I don’t come from here. But at the very least I was raised on la-“
what? She’s not from here? I look up at her “Where are you from, how did you get here, from what I’ve gathered this civilization has no contact with the outside world.” Oh no, I slipped up, my composition had left me for a moment, that is not what I’m supposed to do.
“Heh, if you won’t tell me, why should I tell you?” she chuckles, I’m tired of this, I leave, but as I’m walking off she calls out behind me “good luck!”

SEA-1B
“You are their leader, yes?” I stand before the one Neptune had told me to go to.
They nod “In a way, that’s not the word we use but I will try to help, what do you need?” something about them, they way they look at me, it makes me uneasy.
“I must know who will train me.”
“Train you?” they echo “Whatever for?”
This comes a surprise, were plans not already made by the superiors “To fight ma’a-uhm, sir?” I clear my throat awkwardly. They are looking me over, radiating authority whatever their role may be, it is clear they are in authority here.
“You are a small, plain little thing.” It feels as if they’re looking into me, uncomfortable.
“Yes.” I do not deny it “Which of your warriors will train me.”
“We don’t have warriors, we don’t fight.” Looking into their eyes, they seem almost concerned. Who wouldn’t be worried when strangers from afar come into your peaceful lands wishing to fight. I know what the superiors have told me but do we have the right to come march ourselves into these people’s land, disrupting their lives? But of course when the titan comes… lives will be far more than disrupted.
“What if your castle comes under attack?”
“It doesn’t.”
That’s odd, I know they’re isolated from the world, it’s why we chose them, not to cause panic, but still, wow. “Then you have no defenses?”
“Why should I tell you, war seeking stranger!” A cold fury burns in their eyes and their voice is loud and clear, I feel minuscule in comparison.
“I am sorry, I did not mean it like that.” It was true, that was not my intent. But I know it was wrong to ask, we are trying to make peace with these people, I will be more careful with my words in the future.
There are a few minutes of silence as I stand frozen under their glare. But when they speak again it is softer, kinder, forgiving “I’ll have various people assigned to teach you what they know, but don’t expect powerful warriors.”
Good, this is what I want to hear “Thank you, I sincerely apologize for my mistake, thank you for helping us, thank you for helping me.”
It’s clear they don’t trust me, but what kind of an idiot would, I bow but they do not bow back, different customs of course. I exit the room to seek out my living quarters and as soon as I feel their gaze lift from me I shiver, and not just from the cold.
