Night Adventures - The Trial 2

Angus peered at the dark sea serpent as it loomed over him. Its long serpentine body was covered in bumpy scales, a series of thin spines protruding from each lump. Its slender snout had a row of sharp teeth producing from the jaw, the fangs too long to fit inside the mouth. Angus took a step backwards, almost tripping over his own tail as he took in the sight of the horrifying creature. Angus was unsure what the being was, however he didn't want to hang around long enough to find out. Scanning the area, Angus could only really see one way out. He shuffled towards the water, staring down into the murky depths. He was a strong swimmer but he had very poor eyesight underwater. The lake seemed impossibly dark, a foreboding sense looming over him as he looked into it. Angus wasn't sure if it was the ever approaching sea creature or the sense of the unknown, but he decided that he didn't want to stay there for any longer.

Taking a deep breath and completely forgetting his newly grown gills, Angus plunged into the darkness. A numbing pain shook through his body as he sunk downwards, unable to move out of shock. Angus hadn't expected the water to be freezing cold. Angus kept sinking, all light from above soon fading into nothingness. It felt as though he was back in the dark realms again, unable to escape this seemingly never-ending nightmare.

Slowly but surely movement returned to Angus's limbs as he adjusted to the chilly temperatures of, well wherever he was. He hadn't realised he had been breathing, his gills taking over automatically as he adapted to his watery surroundings. His eyes were gradually adjusting to the gloomy surroundings, although he was struggling to see. Where was he?
