Euclid looked aggressive because of her jagged teeth and scrunched up face, but the demi-goddess rarely was angry. Most demi-goddesses were laid back when they were not defending their wives and girlfriends from monsters. Which Euclid took pleasure in. Giving her the reputation that she had. At least around her wife, whom she doted on. Euclid stomped into the home, thrashing her tail from side to side. White Truffle dove beneath her wife’s legs to protect fragile trinkets from being smashed by her wife.

“What’s the matter, babe?” White Truffle asked, combing her fingers through her hair.

It had been a long day. Working on a case in a large city near where she used to live. Euclid moved away from her wife to continue snarling under her breath. Living out here had made the demi-goddess unaware of how rudely people behaved in other places.

Euclid said nothing. White Truffle should have known. Her wife hardly ever talked, but she was more silent than usual today while the pair left the city and returned to their wilderness home. Euclid would have already implemented some changes to make sure people without powers (like her wife) were not so harshly treated (Not allowed in a shop when she's the only one smart enough to solve your case, something about being bad for the reputation. Euclid could never understand why White Truffle would even help these people) if she was not feeling so ready to obliterate something.

Her stomping echoed off the wood paneling that clad their home. The entire room shook. White Truffle ducked her wife’s long dragon-like tail. White Truffle’s bare paws would have slipped on the polished timber floor if it was not for the carpet creating friction.

White Truffle knew it was not right, but she was used to being treated that way. White Truffle sighed as she massaged her temples with her fingers.

“Let’s sit down and cuddle, babe. I don’t want anything else. Just you, my Sunshine.”

Euclid’s golden claws punctured into the soft fabric of the sofa as she pounced on her wife. Knocking her down with such intensity that the sofa moved a little. The feet scratching the floor. The backrest thumping against the wall. Sending a jarring sensation riveting through the points of impact. Which was quickly forgotten as Euclid’s lips crashed down on White Truffles. White Truffle swallowed, glad that the fabric was not her fragile skin, fur or clothes. Normally, the small feline was perceptive and quick to see any attack. That was why she used to be a sidekick.

Probably the ONLY reason.

The feline would have felt bitterness, but her professionalism spared her the agony. Unlike the others who had left all their suffering behind for their demi-goddess wives and girlfriends, White Truffle still had a job beyond that in the afterlife. She could not leave her job behind. Not yet. The thought crept in.

Even as she pushed her wife down so she could stop giggling enough to breathe. White Truffle blew her hair out of her eyes. When that failed, she employed her paws to tuck her hair behind her large ears. Well, large had a new definition now. Lots of things had new definitions now that White Truffle could step back and analyze without the mental fog. She found herself blushing as she stole a glance at her wife. Euclid was turned, shrugging out of her jacket. The well-worn jacket made her seem more normal. Even if that was dwarfed by her size. You could not understand the size of a demi goddess until you stood beside one who could shade you and a handful of your friends with their shadow. Mid ear-tuck, her wife lifted White Truffle into the air and flopped down onto the sofa, sending the unfortunate piece of furniture bucking like a rodeo horse.

With her wife settled in, almost like a fluffy mother bird, White Truffle pushed herself down out of Euclid’s giant paws and landed without injury on the soft fluff of her wife’s underbelly. Snuggling into the softness like an abandoned kitten. Her wife licked her as she forgot about her primal rage. Bringing her gargantuan head down where her smaller wife could return the favor. Petting her face with her hands. Booping her nose against Euclid’s as a smile crept onto her face.

“I don’t want you to be angry. I know it is not your fault.” The feline whispered. “Babe...My Sunshine...”

Euclid liked it when her wife called her those cute names.

Nothing could harm her here. Listening to the beating of her wife’s heart. Her low growls as Euclid inhaled and exhaled, rumbling like distant thunder over mist shrouded mountains. Her black and white fur rustled like wild grass in a faraway meadow. The jangle of the crystals around the demi goddesses neck. The warmth of Euclid’s arms. Strong like the wilderness their home was carved out of, but also soft like snuggling beneath a warm fur blanket during a thunderstorm. Her tusks gleamed like gemstones. Her blue eyes dimmed and glowed like a flickering candle as rays of colour from the setting sun peeked through the window. The stars had already started to emerge in the twilight, twinkling like millions of tiny fairy lights. The sky was clear tonight. No signs of rain, thunder or lightning.

White Truffle did not notice herself slipping under the waves of sleeping rolling over her. Sometimes she felt that the storms that rolled over their mountain home were a metaphor for the storm inside. Two worlds colliding. Euclid was stronger. The only time that White Truffle did not look anxious was with her wife when they explored the wilderness around their home. Using her knowledge to find geo-caches, solving cases and finding monsters for Euclid to decimate.

The demi-goddess propped her long tail under her head like a pillow. Careful not to wake the love of her life. She was too angry at what she learned about where White Truffle used to work and how it could possibly be worse then how the non-pros even treated her. Euclid would deal with the outside world tomorrow. For right now, she had her entire world cradled against the fluff of her chest. Tomorrow she would ask White Truffle to patch the jacket the feline had made for her. Any excuse to spend more time with the love of her life, her soul mate.
