  • OTHER NAMES: Space porpoise, Astral drifters

  • LIFESPAN: ??? years

  • DIET: Photosynthetic

  • HOMEWORLD: Various

Delmium are perfect companions for societal djubetos deployed onto stations and bases in or near open space. These fascinating animals live in open space, sustaining themselves on nothing more than whatever light they manage to pick up with the solar panel-like organs on their sails. They often gather near space stations, as anything that emits light can attract their attention. They often travel in pods, peacefully travelling the universe in search of energy. Their skin is incredibly versatile. Not only is it difficult to puncture, but it also resists most chemical compounds, meaning that a djubetos can safely touch one. They can never truly be caught or kept as pets, as they die quickly in captivity, but they are incredibly intelligent, and will follow an individual that has befriended them for years to come.

AT A GLANCE

Delmium anatomy consists of a triangular head on a long neck, two stiff sails that swivel at the joint, and a long tail tipped with fins. On the head sits a hard carapace of an unknown material, shielding the animal's eyes from damage. Two horns jut from this carapace, and may be used for defense. There is no sign of a mouth or nostrils. A shark-like fin sits between the sails, suggesting a connection to a common ancestor shared by many creatures across the universe. The sails contain rows of unique organs that act similarly to solar panels.

Delmium have no sternums, allowing their body to flow easily with the momentum generated by their tails. The tail fin contains muscle and bones allowing them to be moved to aid with turning. The spine doubles up midway down the body, adding strength and support to the powerful tail. The sails seem to be a sort of extended scapula. While they are stiff, they can be tilted in directions for movement. There are no true limbs.

While they vary in size depending on age and other factors, delmium tend to stay within the 7-8 foot long range. The figure in the image is about 5'6".

Delmium are photosynthetic, deriving all the energy they need from light absorbed through the sails. No mouth or respiratory structures have been observed, suggesting that light is all they require to survive. They often group at and follow sources of light such as ships, stars, and other celestial bodies. They are often fond of djubetos, as they often emit light from their tails and horns. Delmium skin is tough enough that even the hungriest spacebound djubetos often won't bother trying to consume them.

Delmium are neither territorial nor aggressive. They are intelligent, social creatures, and may even be considered to have near human intelligence. They travel in family pods, but occasionally different pods will encounter and merge with each other for periods of time before going their separate ways. Certain light-emitting comets and other moving structures have been witnessed to have groups of thousands upon thousands of delmium following them.

Delmium can be playful at times, often playing with those working on stations by stealing items floating nearby and enjoying the casual chase. They have also been observed happily interacting with individuals through station windows, following people if they run back and forth from edge to edge of the window. They also enjoy floating through space with djubetos or other astromobile organisms, doing waves and loops through the empty void together.

Delmium are a closed pet species exclusive to the djubetos species group! In order to make one, a glowstick MYO item is required!

Delmium can have any colors or patterning, just try and follow the basic anatomy points displayed in this page! To submit a delmium MYO design, simply DM iShibanu on toyhouse or discord, or post your design in the #pet-approvals channel in the group discord!
