OVERVIEW

"Making memories that last a lifetime"

Camp Stillwater is a facility situated on the shores of Lake Damariscotta located in Maine. Stillwater has been a co-ed summer camp that has been in operation since 1926, in fact, the same family, The Van Der Hagens, have continued to run this camp through the generations. Campers are expected to abide by Camp Code focusing on four basic values: Loyalty, Honesty, Merit, and Comradeship with the understanding that honesty is the best policy, hard work develops virtue, and true friendship comes from loyalty and honor.

There is an undercurrent of foreboding activity on the campgrounds and within the forest just north of town. A sense of general unrest and a power is growing to slowly awaken and attract the otherworldly creatures in the area. This energy has been effecting the campers, camp counselors, and townies. People are starting to see beyond the veil and noticing things that do not make sense to their world. Magical creatures are popping up, local fisherman are beginning to see mermaids, even though some do not believe it. The town itself is in denial. They do not want to confront the supernatural forces that are taking hold of their town. They simply want to go about being normal. Talking about these things are frowned upon as it is not a major problem *yet*. So far those at Camp Stillwater are on the frontlines of experiencing these scary occurances as kids do not shy away from talking about the taboo. They are not safe and it will take a village - or camp - to solve the mystery and try to find out what is happening. Some say that a local gang is the cause of all of this. A mysterious motorcycle gang has moved into one of the foreclosed houses on a hill. They mind their business and are semi-quiet for such a gang, but there is something off about them. They wear sunglasses during the day if they are even awake during that hour, they rebel against what is normal and wear absurd city-folk clothing, and they certainly don't buy a lot of groceries. Why are they here, in such a small fishing town, and where did they come from? Did they bring all this nonsense with them? The townsfolk don't ask, but instead quietly gossip behind their closed doors, and come up with their own ideas when it's safe to. The gang is a group of vampires, unbeknownst to them, and came because they were attracted to the power growing beyond the trees.

Knowing this, you get to choose how your character responds and exists in this world and conflict. Are they unaware? Are they directly in harms way? Have they turned into a vampire or befriended one? Have they stumbled upon zombies? Draw inspiration from what media you like. Your character has choices in how they interact in the world, either through contests, prompts, etc. Have opportunities to earn badges (and stickers in the future) for what your character accomplishes. You get to help mold Stillwater through community and passion. Feel free to ask questions as the lore and world expands. I am excited to see how this world evolves and to answer any questions you have to begin. Right now Stillwater is a little sapling that has so much room to grow.

MISSION & PURPOSE

We provide an encouraging atmosphere where campers are challenged to take healthy risks and form authentic relationships with peers and counselors for 7 weeks. Each camper is respected as an important member of our community, and together, we celebrate differences and achievements. We offer a balance between choice and all-camp activities, Stillwater is a traditional camp with a traditional 8 a.m. Reveille and milk and cookies at 9 p.m. Activities are wide and varied: gymnastics, canoeing, sailing, lacrosse, woodworking, riflery, fishing, swimming, paddle boarding, soccer, extensive ropes course, and baseball are offered while the arts program are also well-regarded. VALUES & PRINCIPLES

Stillwater has four basic values: Loyalty, Honesty, Merit, and Comradeship

These four values should guide you OOCly and ICly with your character and those around you. How does your character follow these principles? How do they deviate from them? This world, while it reflects the 80's, is welcoming to all different walks of life! Please adhere to those principles listed in the rules section.

GETTING STARTED

  1. First choose your faction when creating your character.
  2. Fill out your form on discord and post it in the sign-up channel to join.
  3. Flesh out your character so you are eligable to join prompts and events to earn prizes and camp badges.
  4. Roleplay and interactions are OPTIONAL. This is a space to flesh out a character and build their relations first and foremost.
  5. You have to have a character in order to participate in Stillwater. You choose how much interaction you are comfortable with.
  6. Don't be afraid to ask for help! Ask questions, get involved! This is supposed to be a welcoming and collaborative community.
  7. You are encouraged to buy art of your character, draw your character, and write about your character in any creative way you can think of. Interaction is not based on solely illustrative skill! All skill types are welcomed and appreciated here. It does not matter if you draw or not, we just want to have fun and talk about our characters and ideas, deep down! Stillwater is YOUR oyster. From drawing, writing, to buying YCHs or hanging out.

CAMP

You are a camper, camp counselor, or some sort of staff member that resides in the camp. You are facing the brunt of the supernatural problem and not having the summer you imagined. You are "good" and are trying to survive, fight, and protect around you. Talk about a team building exercise, huh? You can interact with the town around you, campers only with chaperones, and camp counselors whenever they see fit.

SUPERNATURAL

You are here for mixed reasons. You could be bad and malicious, you could be good and want to just be understood, or you can truly be neutral and not care about the present situation. You are free to roam about the world as you please, or whatever fits for you, or be a counselor that is some supernatural being but pretending to be "normal". Whichever the case, your existence is a bit problematic to the camp and town.

TOWNIES

You live in the town. You could be friends with the camp counselors, family members to them, etc. You exist to interact how you want to in Stillwater and learn about what is happening through friends. You can be unknowingly forming relationships with the supernatural, etc. You just don't reside in the camp or want to be a counselor.

CAMPGROUNDS

Situated above the town, the campsite is nestled in a forest a few miles from the main road, where there is a bridge over a river framing the campgrounds. Overlooking the grounds a mile off is a large cabin that belongs to the Van Der Hagens. The mess hall and other facilities are also here. To the right is a large lake where all of the kayaking and swimming take place. Some small islands are in the distance. In the forest there is an abandoned house and witches hut This is where kayaking and swimming takes place. Beyond the lake is more forest that is strictly forbidden to venture into without a counselor.

The campgrounds host cabins full of campers and their respective camp counselors in charge of them. There are four that you can join: THE BEEHIVE, MOOSE TRACKS, OYSTER SHACK, and STARGAZER PEAK. There is friendly competition between the cabins to see who wins games based on the skills learned throughout the summer (or surviving a supernatural event). There is no test to undertake to join each cabin but the numbers have to be even. You can choose your cabin so far.

The cabins are older and decorated as if they had not been updated since the 1920s. There are bunk beds and small drawers for those to keep their clothes and knick knacks in. A small kitchenette is also in the cabin, however, you are expected in the mess hall to eat. Meals are provided three times a day. The weather is typical of your sunny summers, however, rainfall is common and so is the mysterious fog.

THE TOWN

A small town that sits on the edge of a forest that faces the ocean. This town is a known fishing harbor that relies on exporting lobster, crab, shellfish, and other types. The houses are typical of those by the shore, painted wood and dark roofing. The homes are old and full of character, it does seem to look dated but full of charm. In the woods opposite of the coast there is an odd fog. No one should go in the woods alone.

BEYOND THE TREES

A lot of the supernatural happenings are coming from places forbidden to the people living in the town and camp. They come from the deep woods, beyond where people will willfully travel out to alone. This could mean that you are from another town, another realm, or an abandoned hut in the wood. There are multiple groups of supernatural that vary.

Vampires: You can belong to the local vampire gang that moved into town, which annoys the townies. By joining this gang you are under the leadership of Nora and another member. You have a strict moral code to defend your own from outsiders and protect your gang. You would be a daredevil and likely go against the grain. Your background is up to you, you just are loyal to your group of friends living in a recently bought foreclosed home.

Other supernatural: The world is your oyster. Do you want to establish a group? Post in the Discord to make members to make it official and added to the discord. A forum can be created if you approach a mod/admin.
