Heaven and Hell exist, angels and demons exist, and they walk among us.
However, it is not in the most commonly depicted ways - they are simply here to help humans achieve balance. Those who had seen them have sent the word about the further, and the further it got, the more corrupted it became, until we ended up with a false and twisted vision of who they are and what their purpose is.

Indulgence is okay. Overconsumption is okay. Debauchery and excess is okay... as long as it does not consume you.
The moment it threatens the balance of your soul, a demon or an angel is assigned to your case; and they feed on your desire to pursue a vice or virtue recklessly, eradicating it almost entirely, leaving only an amount that brings balance to a soul.
