The IRI

General

The IRI stands for “Irregularity Research Institute”. They are an independently funded research organization whose mission statement is to “expand and explore the phenomenon known as Irregularities”. Well-known and well-loved, they have benefited society’s understanding of Irregularities by providing a lot of new discoveries about them, but their method of doing this is incredibly inhumane... Not like the public knows that.

History

The Administrator created the IRI in the 1950s. How he acquired the resources to build the facility or distribute propaganda in such high quantities is unknown, but he has always had America's best interests in mind - or so they say. He was, is, and will continue to be the only administrator the company has ever known. Anyone inside the IRI that wanted to be the next administrator was silenced. Because of his age seeming to be in the nineties from the small timeline people know of his life, some speculate his Irregularity has to do with aging. Regardless, the IRI became a legitimate player in the field of Irregularity research in the 1960s and has dominated it ever since.

Trivia

There are four divisions within the IRI: security, research, finances, and buildings.
Since Irregularities are genetic mutations, the IRI's researchers are some of the best genetic engineers in the country.
The living conditions of long-term participants are not public information-the only info given is from the IRI itself-and this has been a subject of debate among journalists for years.
Hunters get people to join the IRI by force whereas gatherers recruit people using a more diplomatic approach like campaigning and advertising.
The central building/headquarters (where Until It Sleeps takes place) is based in California, but there are smaller clinics all over the country.
Sub-clinics always answer to HQ; directors of a sub-clinic answers to HQ's directors, and any new policies and practices must be approved by HQ.
