THE PERMAFROST WAR

INTRODUCTION

A little over two thousand years ago, the continent of Pyrrhia was in a state of peace.
After The Dragonet Prophecy and the union of Pyrrhia and Pantala, dragons sought out to establish peace amongst each other. However, territorial disputes began between the IceWing's and SandWing's.

Other tribes paid little attention to these disputes, despite them leading to a war between the two tribes. Still, they refused to acknowledge or take part in the war. None wanted another Great War. So while the Ice and SandWing's suffered, the other tribes flourished.

One animus IceWing experienced the effects of the war first-hand after their SandWing partner was killed. Angered by the lack of acknowledgement by the rest of Pyrrhia, they enchanted the continent so that every tribe could experience the private war. Every time a war was won by one of the warring Sand or IceWing tribes, their territory expanded.
No one knows what happened to the IceWing animus.

All that is known is that the single vengeful enchantment completely changed the course of history for Pyrrhia.

The Overworld

PRESENT-DAY

It is the year 8,818 AS. and the continent of Pyrrhia is in turmoil.

The continent is completely split into a harsh, arctic tundra to the North and an unforgiving scorching desert to the South. The vast majority of tribes have diminished in population, and only two tribes have flourished under the new environmental conditions.

IceWings and SandWings.
The two dominate the continent and are now military powerhouses. Much of their former customs and traditions fell and gave way to customs that are more military-focused. After all, the cost of losing a war is very high.

THE MAP

  • ICEWINGS: Dominate the Northern portion of the continent, occupying former SkyWing and parts of MudWing territory (see Arctic, Boreal Forest, Arctic Highlands).
  • SANDWINGS: Dominate the Southern portion of the continent, occupying most of the former RainWing territory and some of the MudWing territory (see regions marked as Drylands, Desert, Desert Highlands).
  • RAINWINGS: Their territory has since greatly reduced in side and shifted Eastward (see region marked as Savannah. Few, predominately assasins, have decided to reside in the Petrified Jungle and Deadlands).
  • NIGHTWINGS: Some Pyrrhian NightWings have been reduced to living in caves on the most South-Western portion of Pyrrhia to escape the scorching desert (see Desert Highlands on the Talon).
  • SKYWINGS: Reside in former SkyWing territory that has since shrunk and became more concentrated to the mountain range (see Mountains, Mountain Tops) as IceWing's have since occupied most of the foothills and boreal forest.
  • MUDWINGS: Few reside in their former territory, which has since been rendered into a Tundra covered in Permafrost further North, with cool marshes and bogs closer to the Southern border (see Swamp). Majority have taken to coastal and shallow water(see Jungle).
  • SEAWINGS: Some migrated and now reside in the Northern-most territory (see Ice Caps), most have stayed in former SeaWing territory (see Jungle), and a small population completely isolated themselves and became fully aquatic, residing in the deep.

NOTABLE LOCATIONS

 IceWing Palace IceWing Territory

The heart of the IceWing territory, and one of the most inhospitable places in Pyrrhia. Since the war, the palace has expanded in sheer size, ice spikes rising and challenging the SKyWing's mountains in height. Since the war the IceWing's have fluorished, many smaller cities built around the palace. It has grown to the size of a small city.

 Harpy's Roost SkyWing Territory

The largest Stronghold in SkyWing territory, situated on the tallest peaks in Pyrrhia and built over the former SkyWing Palace. It is one of the most dangerous Strongholds and tends to experience the harshest of weather. Those that forecast weather across SkyWing territory reside here, and many would-be forecasters travel to the Roost to better their own weather reading abilities.

 The Shallows MudWing Territory

Few MudWings reside in their old territory, yet those that do reside within The Shallows, a semi-frosted over Tundra marsh. The terrain is difficult to navigate through as the soil is sunken in, some areas so sunken in that dragons can get stuck and die. Many have, yet the MudWings that reside here are resilient and have several nomadic settlements. The temporary houses are built on top of flatter grounds, however, whenever the residents feel the soils start to sink in and take note of the lack of food, they pack up and move.

 Deadlands Independant Territory

The warzone, where the two tribes war and fight amonst eachother. The strip of land cuts through Pyrrhia horizontally like an ugly gash. Most dragons not involved with the war or apart of the armies try to avoid the desecated and rotting landscape altogether...although that's impossible as it constantly shifts and moves.

 SandWing Stronghold SandWing Territory

The heart of the SandWing territory. Like the IceWing Palace, it has expanded in sheer size, an underground city build underneath the Stronghold and radiating from it. It seems like the heat has only intensified, centered over the region of the Stronghold and many have taken underground to escape the heat, others building shaded cities directly around the palace.

 Jade Mountain SandWing Territory

Since the war, the academy disbanded. The mountain and elaborate carved out tunnels and classrooms ahave been expanded upon and are used by the SandWing's, who have since turned the academy into a city. It is used for trade and commerce and a variety of dragons pass through the city. Some desperate would-be RainWing assasins, the odd NightWing selling metals, and occasional SkyWings risking to pass off information on the IceWings. It is the closest thing to unity between the tribes, other than the Musa Retreat.

The Orchard of Claws RainWing Territory

A sizeable orchard of native savannah fruit trees that mark the "heart" of current RainWing territory and are within the largest RainWing settlement. Few trees exist outside of the orchard, yet this is the only orchard that has been grown and tended to by dragons.

 Musa Retreat SeaWing Territory

The territory itself is barren, however beneath the coastline lie shallow underwater tunnels that lead to underground lakes and caverns. Here, coastal MudWings, coastal SeaWings and a few RainWings travel to conspire the end of The Permafrost War.
