Seelie

Seelie

The regal and restrained

The powerful seasonal fey of the south. They are the most humanoid of any fey species, often sporting extremely humanoid bodies with animalistic ears or tails. Horns are also a very common trait in seelie species. They are historically seen as the most passive towards other fey species, but with heavy unfairness within their own borders.

Seelie is a conservative monarchy. They are a feudal, agrarian society. They are heavily religious, and believe that straight, male, high-ranking seelie are superior to other fey. They heavily dislike shifted fey and unseelie, and their society can often be damaging to female and lgbt fey. Their current king is Oberon, who inherited the throne after convincing his father he was too old to continue ruling.

History

King Vega- Born 2,981 years ago, Vega became king after the sudden death of his father left the then 15-year-old leshi the king. It's said the death of King Niron, and his wife Leona not long after, left Vega mentally unstable, but it's more likely that the young king was born being his chaotic self. Ever since the beginning of his rule, Vega showed himself to be not only willing, but eager to challenge the morals and views of his subjects. One of his first acts as king was to allow seelie women to leave their husbands, something which at the time was horrifying and unheard of. Soon after, he wrote that women could propose to a man, if they wished, which again was blasphemous to the people he ruled. Over the first 150 years of his rule, his laws were dotted with freedom for women. By the end of this mark, though women were still unequal, they could hold a job, choose their husband, leave their partner should he hurt them, travel without their husband's permission, and could fight back should enemies attack their home. When asked why Vega chose to do this, he simply would tell others, in full earnest, that he "found it funny". These laws to bolster equality slowed as his rule got longer, but by the end of his rule, women were, at least by law, allowed to do everything men did, gay men and women could be openly so without punishment, and shifted fey were allowed to leave the home they were born in. Vega is still alive, and stepped down 200 years ago. Vega has had multiple wives, who all eventually left his side amicably for various personal reasons. He's still friends with them all.

King Oberon- Born 1,322 years ago, Oberon became king when his father relinquished the throne due to his age and satisfaction with his mark on history. Unlike his hectic, moral-challenging father, Oberon has not done anything to help women, shifteds, or any sort of minority in his kingdom. But, he doesn't actively try to harm them either. His laws focus on helping himself and his few friends. Because he focuses on personal gain, most fey go to his father for help instead of the actual king. On the rare occasion he passes a law to help a minority, it's because Vega has written it and has annoyed Oberon into making it official. Under his rule and Vega's pestering, he's reluctantly made gay marriage legal and banned the banishment of trans fey. He is the current king. His wife is queen Titania.

Species

  • All seelie have horns, and are physically similar to ungulates
  • Seelie have plant-related magic. Their magic is not as potent as most species, but stronger seelie can manipulate plants.
  • Most seelie have too little magic to use. Seelie tend to be physically strong, instead.

Satyr

Satyrs are the common, hooved goat-fey of the summer realm. They are about the same height as humans, even having the same gender-difference of height with females being slightly shorter. Much like ordinary goats, satyrs have horns, with the males having large horns that peak atop their ears, while the females (and children) have small nubs for horns. They have almost human faces, though their mouths and nose are a bit animalistic. They also have a pair of fluffy goat ears atop their head, which are sometimes droopy but usually perk like a cat's ears. Their fur is always a shade of brown, though the shade and hue can vary.

If a satyr is born in unseelie, they are fully furred, and their fur is a pale cream or white instead of brown. Their horns are also far larger- a winter-born female's are larger than even the biggest horns on a summer-born male. They have no skin showing across their body, unlike their mostly non-furred warm counterparts.

Satyrs are completely magicless. They have a large amount of biological magic, but this magic cannot be utilized externally. This applies to both versions of satyrs, though winter-borns radiate heat much like how unseelie radiate cold.

Satyrs are often found serving more powerful summer fey. They are usually servants of some sort, and the majority are born into it. Summer satyrs can leave this job at any time, but most find it difficult to, as they have been raised and taught that they have no other purpose. Winter satyrs are unable to leave their jobs if they live in summer territory.

Feirial

Feirial are the swift 'feral' fey of the seelie realm. They are mostly humanoid, with animal ears, a tail, and paws of whatever creature they are for feet. They can be a few different creatures, but most of the time they have the form of some sort of fox or otherwise vulpine creature. However, they can also be rabbits, squirrels, or wolves. They are skinny and tall, generally being taller than other species of seelie. They can run up to 20MPH, much faster than many other fey. When born in unseelie, feirial look significantly more like their animal, and always a white version. Fox feirial become Arctic foxes, squirrel feirial become leucistic, and so on. They are also fully furred, having muzzles instead of human faces.

Feirials' social standing is approximately high middle-class. They take up most of the upper middle class, some even being nobles. They take a variety of jobs.

They can somewhat shapeshift, being able to turn into any wild animal that's the same as or less mass than their ordinary form. This is their only ability.

Sphinx

Sphinx are a race of sturdy lion fey. They are the least humanoid of the seelie, even in their summer form. They have lion ears and a lion tail, cat eyes, and massive horns that arch over their head and curve near their back. Humans often mistook the curved part of their horns for wings. Winter-born sphinx are even more like lions, with white fur, and their horns are even larger. Sphinx are on the lower side of middle-class, often taking jobs for satyrs or being soldiers. They can take a lot of hits, and with some training can hit back just as strong. They have very little magic, and even with training are unable to use it for much.

Leshi

Untitled1768_20220808171146.png?ex=6562c Untitled2487_20231111213719.png?ex=6562b Untitled2488_20231111223040.png?ex=6562c Untitled2487_20231111213719.png?ex=6562b Untitled2488_20231111222745.png?ex=6562c

Leshi are the primary royal species of the summer fey. They largely resemble humans, both in height and in body. Female leshi are easily mistaken for humans if seen from far away. However, all leshi are born with multicolored hair, these colors almost always being impossible for humans to attain without hair dye. These various colors fade into each other in ombre patterns, and are usually evenly spread on both sides, with fades being vertical. Their eyes can also be colors unnatural in humans, though they do tend to still be blue, green, or brown. Their key feature is their horns. Though easy to miss with females, male leshi grow stag horns that grow varying plants. These horns never stop growing, and are a good way to gauge age. Even females continually grow their horns, so they too can have horns if they're old enough.

If a leshi is born in unseelie, they are more deerlike. They have white fur, significantly larger horns, and take on an appearance more like a pale summer satyr than a colorful human.

Leshi are the royal species of seelie fey. They are almost always nobles, if they are born in seelie territory. Hybrid leshi are common, though hybridism often causes them to lose their vibrant hair. They have powerful nature-related powers, being able to shapeshift fully. Many of the stronger leshi can also manipulate plants to do what they want, though they cannot create plants through magic.
