Déorwine : friend of the elk 𐂂

A clan that once was within the hundreds, existing for years to go by and once held firm in woodlands that was similar to yellowstone. They are most notable for their belief within the religion that rules under the High Elk, and due to so are known to be close to the elk, and hold defensive traits over them. A belief to be as elegant as they are, holding themselves with a grace and sophistication as many find themselves like that of royalty, regardless of relation to the royal bloodline that holds the honor and grace to be the ruler of the family.

“He with a Thousand Horns,” the High Elk, although a genderless patron, deity, and God to some, the most common ephipet is of male form. The Deorwine believe the elk are his holy apostles, and due to so are forbidden to hunt, yet other ungulates are of free-reign given by His grace of their devotion, and intertwinement with peace among the elk. Though every religion comes with their own faults.

TONES

Wolves commonly of many different shades of brown, other colors are often a rarity and even frowned upon. They are well-adept hunters, matching a build of usually slim proportions with long-legs, but it’s not entirely uncommon to find different physiques. Usually with warm tones, their eyes often match so, a variety of yellow, orange, to red and even at times in a pink gaze. Many those who take Deorwine upon their name have noble gait, holding their head high with a confidence that matches unlike any other.

They say the richer you are within browns, the closer you are to the elk.

HISTORY

Long ago it was said a Déorwine ancestor had betrayed the High Elk and hunted one of the Apostles. With doing so, their colors were stripped and led to be a white wolf among their kind. Since then a stigma has followed closely to tones one may be born with concerning their fur. Often looked down upon, something akin to not only unholy, but even ugly to others.

Every wolf has held a different belief since then. Some believe that the white markings are an ominous sign to what is to come, a path of sin they are to lead, and that the High Elk is warning in advance. Many of those within that white embrace are more likely to turn to heathens, so they say, and some within their fear scorn and turn away from these wolves. Mocking them, and leading even to a deeper pit of despair.

Others believe that it is the sin of the parents that shows within their next of kin. It was both akin to showing the disgrace of the biological parents, as well as the favor of the High Elk lost in the newest young. Although often many look upon in favor when those in lesser-colors are absolutely devoted to the High Elk, and continue their faith until death. Only then, can they be forgiven.

Yet they aren’t the only ones that dealt with the colorist prejudice that the Déorwine present. Even black has not been favored toward, and yet it more is a forbidden topic among the elders, where it's ominous and warned to stay away. The true meaning of why has long since been lost, yet that same fear has held firm for generations to come.

Even the grays didn't look well. Brown being the favorite, many other colors look rather unattractive, with some being in just the lines of possibly being alright, and yet not. Such as gold, almost near in that perfection yet just a bit away. A few Déorwine hold an orange-glow with reds about, and many see that was the similarity of brown.. Just as long as it’s not gold.

Likewise red once held its own place in the Clan. Long ago they were treated as slaves, barbaric for the color of red was the same as blood. History says their fur was dyed as so due to their bloodlust, and because of that they were looked down and mistreated. A civil war had broken through decades ago, and since then those who have red-pelts have found their way into the Clan, and yet the stigma of being a barbarian still remains.
