A world in which humans never lived but rather deer and wolves became the dominant intelligent species through magic. The two species have been at war since they can remember, wolves using their magic to forge machinery and industrialize the world while deer maintain natural balance and use their magics to give back to the world in which they live. Both species tend to be born plaincoat (natural colorization) but since develop the mark of magic (colors, odd patterns or shapes) through their lives through the use of magic. Though both species have a lifespan of that of a human life span (about 100 years) magic can keep them alive for much longer. The longest recorded life was 354 years, but rumors say there are some who have lived beyond that. Some can be born marked and that means they are bound to have extremely powerful magics if they are trained properly.

Deerfolk tend to live close to nature in huts or dens in villages or living minimally in campsites. They use trading to get things they need and use magic to interact with the world around them. They are highly spiritual and believe in a greater purpose and are wise, telling stories and teaching their young as much as they can before they pass. While being born plaincoat is common, remaining that way forever is really rare for deerfolk. Some deerfolk are so magically inclined that they can be born with the mark of magic already marking their natural coloring.

Wolvenfolk live in cities of steel and live in homes and have currency. They have evolved to be able to use their front paws as makeshift hands and due to that have since grown away from using magic as heavily. Due to this almost all Wolvenfolk are born in plaincoat and some stay that way for their entire natural lives (that of a human lifespan). Born marked wolvenfolk have only happened a handful of times since the splitting of communities several hundred years ago.
