Who
There are two sentient species, humans and varnives. Varnives are human-bird hybrids, which the journal entries mostly focus on. There is also "Truth", the name given to the magical energy that flows through the universe, who may have a bit of sentience. Only a few have been able to talk to it, so no one knows
What
A mostly closed species. To make one, you have to be a member of the discord, where you can basically let your ideas run. Traits are very loosely definded and only a few birds are completely off limits
WhereA version of our world. At the moment, it looks pretty close to ours, there may be a few canals that have yet to be dug, or there’s a few extra islands
When
It’s the start of the industrial revolution technology-wise, plus and minus a few things. Mostly because I want steam trains and steampunk vibes in some cities. However, I’m also pretty certain that Japan still has it’s borders closed, which would place us kinda in the mid 1800s range. I also know I want to avoid World Wars, and in general, keep some of the horrendous things done through history out of this. On top of that, fashion stuff would probably go up to the late 1800s, due to the time frame of tech.
So, the short version, somewhere in the 19th century. Each country or landmass (it changes) is at slightly different points. But things tend to lean a bit more traditional in terms of style and patterns used
