Ísæðar

Ísæðar

Introduction

The reason for Iseaðar’s odd shape is mainly the historic expansion of Stríðsljós towards Draxcogia. Centuries of war and attempts to encroach on Draxcogian territory has led to this long, snaking shape going towards the east. In peaceful times between Draxcogia and Stríðsljós however the Stríðic government’s desire to expand leads to expansion in the other direction. Many settlements, towns, and villages in Iseaðar remain independent; in order to continue the tradition of war before coronation, the varakongurs of Stríðsljós make strategic attacks on different towns in order to fulfill that requirement while keeping the peace with the countries around it. As long as Stríðsljós keeps its infighting within the border, there continues to be peace in Voldea.

Stríðsljós

Stríðsljós

Description

Stríðsljós is built within the ruins of an old dvergr fortress. It is carved out of the mountain itself and many of the buildings that still stand are made of that same stone and architecture. There is a certain mismatch of buildings as the Stríðsfólk build their own longhouses and are unable and unwilling to replicate the original architecture of the dvergr.

Notes

  • The ruins are built in a way that the mountain is at its back, with only one viable way to attack from.
  • There are many guards and walls between the entrance to Stríðsljós and the rest of the city.

Noteable Locations

The Dragon Stone Landmark

A large stone left over from the dvergr ruins that has since been carved into by the Striðfolk. It depicts the battle between the gods and the great dragon that ate the sun.

The Mines Location

The abandoned mines in which a whole city of dvergr entered and never returned from. The Striðfolk believe that the deeper into the mines you go, the more fleshy and organic the mines become, ending in a great maw. This great maw is said to be the underworld, swallowing up cowards and deserters.

Hrókur

Hrókur

Description

A town to the southwest of Ísæðar. The giant swampy area has a lot of flora and fauna not found in other places, which attracts many botanists, alchemists, and other travelers. It is said there is a lich in the area however, that captures these travelers for their wicked experimentation.

Notes

  • Hrókur is home to the oldest library in Ísæðar.
  • In the past, there were talks of relocating the library's resources to Draxcogia, the academic hub of Voldea, but those plans have since fallen through as tensions rose between the nations.
  • There have been sightings of the undead in the swamp as of late.

Noteable Locations

The Library Location

An ancient library that has been active since about 2856 MTH; many famous figures throughout history have come to this small town in search of information.

Lich Manor Location

A previously abandoned home in the middle of the swamp that has been taken over by the lich residing in the swamp. Their most notable experiment is prince Aus'zin, who loses their wings and an arm to the lich's cruelty.

Jaðvíld

Jaðvíld

Description

Jaðvíld's forests are made up entirely of prehistoric trees and giant mushrooms; its forests dark, it is almost impossible to see sunlight when inside this deep drop.

Notes

  • It is written in history books that this place used to be an enormous lake which eventually dried up and became this lush, dense forest.
  • Jaðvíld is uniquely home to the lauma race, which can only really survive in the unique environment this area possesses.
  • There is a giant skeleton in Jaðvíld, one of many located in Voldea, a record of beings that have long passed.

Noteable Locations

Fairy Rings Location

The lauma live inside mushrooms, many of which form giant fairy rings around necrotic areas in the ground. These necrotic areas are perfect for mushroom farming, and as a result whole villages form inside these fairy rings.

Coprinopsis Cinerea Place Type

Home to an unfriendly lauma named Aj, this lonely mushroom sits far enough from other mushrooms that Aj isn't usually bothered by their kin. They prefer it this way, however, being a very asocial and solitary creature.
