Description.
The lauma are a race of small, child-sized creatures that live in the mushrooms making up large fairy rings. They live in a state of commensalistic symbiosis with mushrooms that grow from their skin and heads. As they walk through the forest, these mushrooms release their spores, bolstering their growth while the lauma are able to farm these mushrooms for trade within colonies.
Habitat.
Fairy rings are often where lauma can be found, but these are not the only types of mushroom formations that they reside in. Any sort of giant mushroom gathering, such as those on trees or other rot will inevitably have lauma living there. There are many instances of treehouse type habitats that form as they live high up on giant trees.
Behaviorisms.
Lauma are friendly and sociable creatures amongst each other, but skittish and wary around outsiders.
Group Organization.
The lauma are very community oriented. They cohabitate in their mushroom huts and young are raised collaboratively versus a standard family unit. They harbor no secrets from each other and consider all of their kin to be safe and trustworthy. It is very rare and seen as strange if a lauma wants to be solitary.
Hunting && Diet.
Hunting is dangerous for the lauma, who are small and do not have many defenses. Although they do not have many natural predators, there is still danger in Jaðvíld and the lauma avoid unnessesary risk. They prefer instead to forage for dead animals and rot, their bodies having adapted to eat these sorts of things without worrying about the toxins and bacteria they contain.
Communication.
The lauma have their own language made up of purrs and clicks, although they have the capability to learn common, as showcased by the lauma Aj who is able to learn a handful of words to communicate with prince Jakob.
