Welcome to Laexans! Laexans are an extra-terrestrial closed species by whispen. Though they may look cute, these 6-limbed rabbity aliens are a warlike species who use aggression to rule their part of the galaxy. They have humanoid intelligence, are proficient in tools, and have advanced technology that makes them formidable foes. They also have a wide range of colors and morphologies, thanks to their version of gene editing so they can make themselves look however they want to!

APPEARANCE/ AT A GLANCE

Laexans are muscular, dense, and well-furred creatures roughly the size of a bear. They have four thick legs with significant fat pads that give them a round appearance. Set above their forelimbs are a pair of small arms that are nimble despite their length. These arms end in small hands that are surprisingly dextrous with opposable thumbs and palm pads.

They have large, round heads with expressive eyes that have a wide field of vision and are generally pupil-less. They generally have a pair of small horns and large, rabbit-like ears as well as a rabbit-like nose and mouth. Typically they have a thick ruff of fur around their neck that gradients smoothly into a short dense fur covering the rest of their body. They have a small and broad tail that has a thick skin on the underside that continues down between the hind limbs.

Their limbs are roughly the same height as the length of the body with the skull roughly 1/3 of the whole height of the creature.

5xTZg4u.pngThe Laexan has a large head with massive eyes, a rabbity nose and mouth, a pair (usually) of horns, and large rabbit-like ears.

Unlike a rabbit, however, they also have a set of large, broad canine teeth in their jaws. Though these teeth evolved to shred vegetation, the onmivorous Laexan uses them to eat meat as well. They will sometimes use these teeth for combat, though it's often seen as "fighting dirty" in Laexan society. They also have a set of rabbit-like incisors and 22 molars and pre-molars.

Their large eyes generally don't have visible pupils, though they will sometimes use genetic tampering to change the appearance of them. They are compound-style eyes with a very large range of vision and very good depth perception. they have a nearly 360 view of the world around them.

Their ears are incredibly sensitive, and the thick ridged skin on the inside of them helps channel vibrations down into the eardrums. The appearance of them is very variable, with ranges in size, fur, even shape.

Their horns are even more variable than their ears, and come in various numbers, sizes, textures, and more. Most commonly, they have a pair of short, stout horns with a smooth texture.

HuXdRsT.png Laexans have 6 limbs. They have one pair of hindlimbs, one pair of forelimbs, and a pair of arms set above the forelimbs. They are broad with heavy, dense bone, a layer of muscle, and a thick fat pad. This layer of fat helps protect them when they engage in combat and absorb the venom that males and gynans have contained in their spines.

The forelimbs and hindlimbs have paws with 4 short, wide toes and a thick pad that covers the palm and all of the digits. The forelimbs also have a small carpal pad that isn't connected to the palm pad.

The arms situated above the forelimbs have hands that are similar to their paws but with longer, more nimble fingers. They have 4 fingers with an opposable thumb that allows them to easily grasp objects. Like with the paws, the pad connects the fingers and the palm. Though the arms have a somewhat limited range of motion, the are able to use them in almost any way a human can. The exception to this is throwing objects. None of the Laexan's paws have claws.

Male and gynan Laexans have anywhere from 4 spines up to a maximum of 16 spines located on the forelimbs and hindlimbs (males only). These are connected to venom glands under the skin, and when the spines are pressed into something the venom is released. Though Laexans are mostly immune to the venom and therefore no great injury will occur, the venom will still impart a burning, stinging sensation. Other species in contact with the venom may not be so lucky, depending on their level of resistance. Laexans have learned to add this venom to weapons for use against the galaxy's other species. Symptoms for a more vulnerable species may even go as far as death, though the typical reaction is extreme discomfort that will fade over the course of a few days with no lasting damage. To avoid accidental stinging, a Laexan may choose to manually express the venom and save or discard it.

K6CIUtL.pngLaexans have 3 main fur types. In general their fur is short and dense, with a longer and thicker ruff of fur around the neck. Some individuals living in warm, dry areas will have very short fur that gives more of a sleek appearance. The other 2 fur types are recessive genes that give the Laexan much more fur. All 3 types can have hair on their heads as well.

Normal Fur: Normal fur is the typical fur of a Laexan. Anywhere from sleek short fur to denser and slightly longer fur. Normal-furred Laexans can have slightly longer tufts of fur around the elbows and base of the tail but do not have tufts of fur around the cheeks.

Lionhead Fur: Lionhead fur gives the Laexan much longer fur around the neck and cheeks, and often on the rump and sometimes the limbs as well. The mane can go about halfway down the back, but not as much as would be confused for an angora.

Angora Fur: Angora fur gives the Laexan long fur across it's entire body. The hair is sleek and silky and goes from the base of the ears all the way down to the base of the tail. There is also long fur on the cheeks and the limbs as well. As this long fur can get in the way, often Laexans with angora fur will shave, trim, or style their fur to keep it from getting messy.

76084727_VvyRfXnwa28zkfc.pngLaexans spend most of their time quadrupedal, walking on four legs. When necessary for height or the manipulation of certain objects, however, they may choose to adopt a bipedal stance. This position isn't comfortable long-term, but they are able to spend an hour or so at a time bipedal.

When bipedal, they often have a slight lean forward, with their forelimbs hanging down and paws situated around their hind knees. This allows them the biggest range of movement for their arms.

Anthropomorphism

While already some level of anthropomorphic, Laexans may be drawn to look more like a standard "furry" if desired. This is as long as the most important features that identify it as a Laexan are present, such as four arms, fat pads, and paw pads. Whether the arms are one large pair and one small pair or both normal sized is up to the artist.

Anthro art can be submitted for any official art (prompts, contests, ect) except for references.

qbw9uLo.png Kinds

Kinds are the Laexan version of sexes. Instead of the more familiar 2, Laexans naturally have 4. Female, Dyssal, Male, and Gynan.

Traditional creation of offspring happens between:
Female/male
Female/Gynan
Gynan/Gynan
Male/Gynan

Dyssals are unable to reproduce the traditional method but any kind can have offspring with any other kind through scientific means, including dyssals.

Females may or may not have dewlaps, but never have spines
Dyssals do not have any secondary kind characteristics
Males do not have dewlaps, and must have at least 2 sets of spines on each middle and hind limb. They may also have broad jaws.
Gynans may or may not have dewlaps and may or may not have from 1-3 spines on their middle limbs

Kind-based Societal Norms

Laexans are loosely matriarchal, with a dominant female generally leading family groups and communities. In courtship, males and gynans will battle for the affections of a female or gynan and the female or gynan will choose the winner. Though males and gynans have venomous spines, they are typically more for show than anything else. The fat pads on all Laexans' limbs protect the creature from absorbing too much venom from battling and at most they usually just feel a slight burning sensation.

Laexans generally do not mate for life but it isn't unheard of. Generally the kinds don't matter in these pairings and they will choose based on general compatibility.

Laexans, with their advanced technology, can more or less change their outer kind-characteristics at will. Though it may take some time for the changes to take effect, various surgeries, gene editing, and hormonal changes make it fairly easy for a Laexan to present exactly how they would like to other Laexans.

DaWjZLs.pngFactions are still a work in progress!

There are 3 major factions in Laexan-kind. There are the Kingdom, The Sunchasers, and The Nomads. Not every Laexans fits into one of these 3 groups, but many do and the groups have been at war for much of their civilization.

The Kingdom is the largest faction, and is the major governmental body of the Laexans. They are hungry for conquest, and through trade and battle they seek to obtain more and more territory in lands near and far.
The Sunchasers are a large religious group who seek enlightenment in the stars. They worship the universe itself, and seek to unlock the mysteries of the energy that comes from the stars. They seek to control the stars themselves and capture as many systems as possible.
The nomads are a loose group of traders, space pirates, and deflectors who seek to escape the tyranny of the Kingdom and Sunchasers. Through any means, they seek their freedom.

vbhuypY.pngLaexans evolved as simple herbivores on the planet of Laex. Throughout their evolution, they became more and more aggressive to deal with their predators and eventually evolved to be omnivorous themselves. They were not the first intelligent lifeform to evolve, but they were the most capable of battle. They rose to be the most dominant species fairly quickly.

Their society advanced much like human society, with many nations that all battled for supremacy. Clans gave way to towns which gave way to kingdoms. By the time the species reached space, it was 3 distinct nations that did so around the same time. These would later become the 3 main Laexan factions that still exist today.

As they reached the edges of their star system, the Laexan were approached the first time by a Galactic Alliance who were seeking first contact. In response, the Laexans destroyed their ship. Uninterested in any alliance, the 3 nations all scattered separately into different parts of the galaxy and began to colonize empty sections of space. The Galactic Alliance decided against further contact unless necessary, and they and the Laexans largely ignored each other. The Laexans proved to be resouceful and strong, and before long they became an established force to be reckoned with. They were skilled at creating weapons and ships and were valuable traders. Now, they occupy several niches both on colonized planets of their own and planets filled with many diverse species.

Laexan society is much like human society, but a bit more aggressive and less polite. Some live in human-like family homes, some alone, and others in larger hostel-like homes where many individuals will share a living space. Other Laexans are more transient and will live on airships or spaceships and not stay anywhere for too long. They will inhabit planets of all kinds, but generally places that are warm and humid like their home planet.

They have industry and careers and their city layouts are similar to those in human societies. Almost any job a human could do, you'd be able to find a Laexan doing as well. In addition, spacefaring Laexans may be traders, mercenaries, explorers, contractors, or many other things as a part of a crew. The average Laexan won't be able to afford a personal spaceship, but a resourceful and particularly smart one may be able to build one for themselves.

3 of the 4 Laexan kinds can produce offspring in the traditional manner, but with their technological advancement all 4 kinds are able to procreate. If you are looking to breed your Laexans, the kind doesn't matter. All you need is 2 Laexans (or permission to breed 2 Laexans) and an item from the shop called a "test tube."

Once you have these things, just follow the instructions on this channel in the discord.

Laexans are born helpless with closed eyes and ears, very little fur, and underdeveloped limbs. Over the course of 2 months they grow rapidly and are able to walk, run, and play. Childhood play is heavily focused on combat, and at about 1 year they begin to recieve an education. They reach adulthood by around 10 years old and live to 80 to 120 years.

1. To create a Laexan you must have a MYO slot. You are able to recieve your first slot free when you join the discord, and additional slots can be purchased through USD or in-game currency called credits.

2. Laexan designs must not infringe on copyright or the rights of others. They may not include anything offensive (such as homophobia, transphobia, ect) or distasteful.

3. If you choose to leave the group and have your Laexans removed from the masterlist, you will be asked to change the characters so they no longer look like Laexans, should you choose to keep them.

4. You are welcome to have art of your Laexans interacting with other species as long as it abides by the rules of the other species. They will be considered alien species in-universe.
