Wishfaes get their name from the fact that they are wished for, and the fae part refers to their mythical properties. They are creatures descended from the stars, summoned by ancient humans and other creatures alike through wishing.
But when a Fae was summoned, there was unfortunately no way for them to return to the stars, leaving them to be stuck on the planet earth. Power-hungry chaotic monsters from the Back of Nowhere came to earth seeking their power, leading to the extinction of humans and many other creatures.
The last of the Faes protected themselves by using ancient magic to get rid of the monsters, and revive what was left of the land (because the monsters had destroyed everything).
But with the humans now gone, the Wishfaes adapted the land to their own- created their own colonies, cities, landmarks and rules.
