Mountain Spring Oasis

The Mountain Spring Oasis is an open pride set within the universe of the I Hope So Comic.

The Mountain Spring Oasis (or Piebald Pride) is a group of lions that reside at the Oasis, an ancient mountain spring valley surrounded by a jagged mountain range. The water is said to contain valuable healing properties and the land is a sacred place to many lions. The valley is home to many of the region's piebald lions who tend to the sick and injured who travel to their land.

Oasis Beginnings

The mountain spring, now known as the Oasis by lions, has existed longer than any lion had thought to set their paws there. A long time ago, the first lion to discover the spring felt a strong, instinctive pull. They left the safety of their home and family to become a traveller and seek out the source of what was guiding them. After searching for years, they finally stumbled across the great mountain spring hidden away inside of a lush mountain range valley.

Lore & Culture

All Oasis lions wear a plant, herb, or flower motif somewhere on their coat. Each plant holds a specific meaning to each lion. For some, family members all choose to wear the same flower. For others, some adorn the herb of a lion they've lost to carry on their memory. Additionally, some may even choose to keep a specific plant species native to their birthplace to be close to their homeland.

If a lion chooses to stay in the Oasis, they typically take up a new plant, herb, or flower-based name of their choosing once their healing training is complete. Their choosen names could also hold particular meaning to them, and some lions continue to go by their birthnames interchangably.

Most lions that choose to exist in the Oasis full-time train to become healers, but others who are more prone to skills in combat may be tasked with becoming a guard to protect the integrity and safety of the spring water and surrounding valley.

Piebald Pattern
Info & Appearance

The splotchy, patchy piebald pattern is associated with a deep connection to the Oasis. Many lions believe that when a piebald lion cub is born, their pelt was blessed by the Oasis's ancient waters. This connection is due to the fact that piebald patterns often resemble permanent "water splash" markings. Piebald lions typically have a strong, instinctual bond connecting them to the spring, and often make a journey to visit the sacred land. Not all piebald lions choose to stay, but many take up the mantle of learning the ages-old healing skills from the elders and become a member of the community, either healing the sick or guarding and protecting the land from harm.

The pattern can take on virtually any color palette, leading to a wide variety of coat colors. The splotchy pattern can be a very prominent feature of the coat, but lions with smaller, less pronounced patches can be seen as well. More often than not, the patches are a lighter version of the base coat color, with some instances yielding pure white patches.

Piebald lion cubs are typically uncommon, but can occur with more traditionally marked parents. The reverse is true for piebald parents, however, as they will always yield piebald cubs.

Population & Hierarchy

Due to piebald lions being born in various prides and factions around the region, many of the population of the Oasis are non-native to the area. Ocassionally, lions who have made their home in the valley take mates, resulting in "Oasis-born" cubs, though this tends to be less common with the number of piebald lions arriving from outside of the faction.

Aside from the permanent population, a sizable temporary group typically exists there. These consist of Travellers, Pride-borns, and anyone else that arrives to be healed of injury or illness.

Healing Skills

The lions of the Oasis utilize a variety of plants and herbs on top of the use of the spring water as a healing tool. The comprehensive skills they display in healing are thanks to the passing down of ancient knowledge and techniques over generations.

Despite this, they don't work miracles. The Oasis is often a last hope for survival for desperate and dying lions and unfortunately, some are beyond saving by the time they arrive.
