The 8-Light Universe (superset to 8-Knight story arcs) is a Sci-Fi, Plot Arc-based story concept that was inspired by various original works, including 8-Man, Deus Ex(video-game), IronMan (MARVEL), The Maze Runner (novel), STAR TREK, Continuum, 1984, and the likes. However, its similarities to the content that inspired it may be only skin-deep, as the aim of the overarching story-line is to (try to) be both scientifically plausible and somewhat realistic in certain expectations. Those expectations also pertain to the use of the four Fundamental Forces, and 11-D M-Theory. With this in mind, the basis of this Universe is the following:

Part I

Somewhere, deep in the Multiversal plane, a universe exists that initially, is so similar to the the one you actually dwell in, that you can cannot tell the difference. Perhaps it is a parallel universe of some sort, where the difference is so subtle, that any ordinary man would go mad searching for the difference that makes it so unique? Upon further inspection of the timeline, however, the difference seems much more profound - an event in its Earthen history, that changed its course forever. The United States had experienced enough political oppression to bring about second Civil War, and the nations had seen their third World War. Surely, something is wrong with this picture - a scorched Earth with ashes raining from the skies? And, in the chaos of it all, one seized the opportunity to change the course of history forever. In their actions, the Multiverse was changed. Worlds collided. The echoes of war rang throughout.

Starting in the not-so-futuristic year of 2020, a version of Earth, not unlike your own, began to fall into disarray as the alliances between nations and people alike crumbled. Left in their wake were tensions that rose as differing ideals, and a faltering economy combined, shaking the foundations of everything those people knew. With the rise in terrorism in the early 2000’s, a shifting world economy, a destabilised U.S. attempting to re-stabilize, and Europe reorganizing their currency, nothing is really set in stone.

In the year 2028, the U.S. took the spotlight, as its government began to crack down on individual rights and the private sector with sweeping new legislation that threatened to elicit unrest. Slums were a common sight in this age, and the middle class was almost non-existent, with the recent polarization of the economy - a high-class, and relative ghettos. Anyone who didn’t fit one of these two classes did one of two things - leave, or lose almost everything they had. Most everyday services and products were owned by semi-government entities. New fees on property ownership and other social status decreased the amount of money a person can hold in the bank, and interest rates were unreliable - money didn’t grow anymore in savings. In fact, it drained away - even CD's were too volatile to use effectively.

A new Arms Act prohibited the private ownership of any firearms whatsoever - they could only belong to those who have them due to their occupation. A new Carbon Dioxide tax applied to anyone that breathes, and took one percent of any capital gains you made during the current year. The new tax code required 30 percent of *all* (includes stocks and investments) all private funds to be paid, directly via government-owned offices throughout the nation. Surveillance laws allowed for the government to openly track any and all forms of electronic communications, and talking out in the open wasn’t safe either - if you’re near an electronic device bought on the market, you were likely being watched...

Part II

The Preservation event that occurred (in the original timeline) lead to the development of two, entirely new timelines, in which the rate of technological progression had decreased (in comparison to that of the original timeline) - but not in comparison to that of our own history. There are two progressions that take the spotlight now:

  • 1977 :: 8-Hologram
  • 1996 :: 8-Augmented
