"Now the blow's been softened since the air we breathe's our coffin. Well, now the blows been softened since the ocean is our coffin. Often times you know our laughter is your coffin ever after and you know the blows been softened since the world is our coffin." Satin in a Coffin, Modest Mouse.

The Six Minutes universe explores the six minutes before an individuals' death, a mutual fever dream experienced by individuals who are teetering on the edge between life and death. Individuals who are in comas, are unconscious or are approaching death will enter a dream-like state and enter a city where they live out their final moments.

"Entre la nuit, la nuit et l'aurore. Entre le royaume des vivants et des morts. If this is heaven I don't know what it's for. If I can't find you there, I don't care." - Reflektor, Arcade Fire

The city that everyone enters has no official name. It is surrounded by a thick fog, and any attempts to leave the city through the fog will cause you to become lost and end up right where you started. The city is large, filled with towering skyscrapers that have been overgrown with weeds. The entire city is flooded, with ankle-high water filling the entirety of the ground with the exception of some dry-spots and inside buildings. There are not many items located in the city save for some scrappy furniture, and items with great sentimental value that people have brought in and lost when they leave.

The city consists of four "rings", the thick ring of fog that surrounds the city, the outer-most third ring that is mostly abandoned, the second inner ring that is filled with outlaws and people who fight for survival, and the hearth of the city where most people gather. People can enter the city from any point, but they mostly fall into the abandoned third ring.

When individuals enter the city, they are typically disorganized and cannot remember the circumstances of how they arrived there. They retain most of their clothes, but their appearance generally changes to reflect the way their injuries. The longer they remain in the dream realm, the fader their memories of their previous life become. This is reflected by the darkening of the scleras. The scleras (either in one eye or both) turn black, while the pupils either stay their original color or turn white. Pupils also typically change shape depending on the persons' personality (ex: having a star, heart, cat-pupil, etc. pupil shape). Before either passing on or waking up, an individuals' eyes will clear and they will regain any lost memories and clarity on how they passed.

The image of the embracing girls was reduced to mere glittering embers. They floated loftily into the air, shimmering in the moonlight until they faded out of existence. Olivia’s trembling, heart-wrenching cries were gone - leaving nothing but a sickening silence. The faint ambient noises floating in the air reverberated in Ky’s ears and brought with it a nauseating sensation. There was nothing.

As someone passes on, or regain consciousness in the real world, their body starts to evaporate Infinity-War style. This typically starts with the legs and arms and spreads until their body turns into nothing but specks.

As a note, everyone hears everyone else speaking in their own language, so there is no language barrier between characters.

  • No age limit on characters.
  • You can make as many Six Minutes characters as you want as long as they follow the rules!
  • Any illness or injury can be used to send someone into the dream realm, just be sure to specify what it is.
  • If a character dies from losing a limb, then they still have their limb attached in the city, but there is a visible scar from where they lost it.
  • If a character is a coma and has been in the city for more than a month, or if they are nearing death, then their eyes should start changing. Feel free to be creative with eye changes. You can have the whites of one or both eyes change color. It must always be black, or at least a very dark grey. You can also change the shape of the pupil, but this is not a requirement.
  • Characters do not know they are in some form of the afterlife until they see someone disappear, this is something you can specify in your bio if you would like.
  • If two or more characters who know each other die in the same space and around the same time, they enter together. They will retain their memories of each other, just not how they got there.
  • Characters who are resuscitated can retain their memories of what happened in the city - this is optional, up to you.
  • You can reuse characters from other universes (as long as they are your own) just as long as they follow the guidelines.
  • Your character can bring a few items with them as long as they have strong sentimental value and have them at the time of death.
