Beblune (deriving from the word "balloon") are an intelligent species who are capable of speech, solving puzzles, and manipulating tools. Their diet consists of mostly gemstones, but they can also consume organic lifeforms, metals, and things that would be considered toxic to any other creature. Beblu who spend most of their time in the sky prefer to eat minerals, while grounded beblu feed themselves by hunting wildlife.

These typically social animals prefer to live in clans of 20-40 friends and family members. Disputes over territory and resources often flare up between neighboring clans, especially in places where elemental gems are rumored to be found. These gems are believed to grant powerful abilities to those who eat them. The existence of these gems is yet to be confirmed.

Affectionately called Taurnar by its inhabitants, the planet is quite small but has no shortage of life. Even its deserts are blanketed with colorful vegetation. Volcanic activity and quakes are very common, each creating or revealing a seemingly endless supply of jewels.

The abundance of beautiful gemstones and valuable minerals attracted this hyper-intelligent race of mammals to the beblune’s planet. Twenty years ago a crew of 50 humans arrived with the intention of harvesting its sparkly bounty. Errors in their technology left them stranded on the planet with no hope of returning. Fortunately, they found that Taurnar was a generously hospitable planet, and started new lives for themselves by developing new, primitive technology and starting families. The small colony of 50 is now 200.

Humans find that beblune resemble dangerous and ancient reptilians from their home planet, and so reacted to them with great fear and aggression. However, over time and many attempts of diplomacy, they forged a peaceful relationship. Their languages and mannerisms are shockingly similar, allowing them to communicate with each other with relative ease.
