HazeClan was, in its beginning decades, a traditional clan.
Most notably, the founding leader, Hazestar, started it all with a group of survivors from the ruins of a powerful storm that destroyed the massive Twolegplace they had been trapped in.
The group, mostly composed of kits and young cats, emerged in a small amount from the wreckage of a building, which had them all housed in odd containers they had named Metal Dens. Hazestar - initially named Cassidy - was the oldest of the group, and the most trusted after he led them away from the ruins of the Twolegplace and taught them how to fend for himself.
He had been a loner most of his life, only recently trapped by twolegs and placed in a Metal Den a few weeks before the storm - much to the group's luck, he had felt sympathy for the young and took them under his wing.
Eventually, Cassidy experienced a strange dream, featuring a cat with a pelt so light that she looked as though she were borne of haze itself -- and in this dream, the she-cat gave him instructions of where to find a home that would sustain the group, and allow future generations to prosper.
"You will become a clan," she told him, "and you will become its first leader. When you are where you were meant to be, find the cave that whispers."
After a massive journey leading them to what is now known as the clan's territory, Cassidy stumbled upon the Whispering Cave through an act of sheer luck -- or, perhaps, fate.
Inside the cave, he met with his true destiny - to become the first leader of his clan, and to experience what it truly meant to be a warrior.
Hazestar, equipped with his nine lives, returned to his clan with this new knowledge in tow -- and the rest is history.
That is, until the clan began to slowly but surely die off after an excruciatingly long winter, when all the prey had either starved or migrated away.
The clan's fourth-named leader, Adderstar, was in the last few moons of his final life when he appointed young Lilypool - a warrior who had been named for only four moons, barely given an apprentice - as his new deputy, after Dappleface, the previous, had succumbed to starvation alongside the other elder cats of the clan.
This was a decision widely met with outrage, challenged specifically by the few remaining senior warriors in the clan. After all, this had been unheard of - appointing a fresh warrior as deputy, with Adderstar so close to death?
Regardless, Lilypool had been appointed fairly within the binding laws of the code - and so, he had become deputy, and then leader, a few moons afterward.
Lilystar, the current leader, is the youngest in the clan's history - and is also the turning point for the recovering clan, having made an ally in the newly-born FernClan, and given the bold new decision in expanding their territory to widen the range of prey able to be caught.
HazeClan, though still bound to some traditions, has begun to evolve - for the better.
