About The Circus
'The Circus You Can Never Leave' -- known in-universe as 'Ripper's Travelling Circus' -- is as the name might suggest, a show with a twist: once you're in, you're not coming out alive.
A murderous doomsday cult masquerading as a harmless troupe of performers slowly but surely carry out their master plan, operating under the shared belief that all people are fundamentally evil, and no one is to be spared from the slaughter.
The project was originally planned as a novel series, however someday we'd love to create a comic if able. For now tho, it's just another DVSKFALL project on the back burner.
Roleplay for this project is restricted to friends only, and would have to take place in an AU as this project has a set storyline.
The Cast
Rufus is irresponsible, immature and quite likely the worst possible fit for any position of authority. Fortunately (or unfortunately) he manages to hold his circus together with the secret ingredient of mind control. However, his mental grasp on his employees is only growing weaker as more and more turn on him.
Nathiar considers himself Rufus' greatest adversary (Rufus would disagree). Narcissistic, emotionally cold and almost reptilian in mind, Nathiar resents his fellow performers and tends to keep to himself unless instigating trouble. Because of his intimidating persona and fearsome reputation, he is generally avoided.
Blythe is one of the more compassionate cast members. Emotional and histrionic, he is surprisingly good at giving insightful advice, but not so great at following it himself. He is easily manipulated, and his kindness is often taken advantage of by those around him.
Stitch is fond of silently observing the others from the sidelines. Almost completely mute while performing as her clown persona, she is similarly taciturn out of costume; though while she's all smiles on stage, behind the curtain Stitch is inexpressive and inscrutable. Her presence often evokes discomfort and unease.
World Lore
Lakewood
Lakewood is a small vacation town nestled up in the Catskill mountains in upsate NY. The town has a small local population, but tourism and vacationing have dried up considerably since the 90s. Still, the town manages to get by. As beautiful as the lakeside town is, it's a dead end for anyone with ambition. Many of the residence can't seem to successfully move on or plant there roots elsewhere, despite their desire.
Lake Clearwater
While Lake Clearwater, the town's namesake, was a bustling vacation spot mid-century up through the 80s, it has been in decline since. The locals of course blame the economy, though there is something peculiar about the Lake that's hard to deny. An incident in the mid 90s where some local kids went missing for a while seems to have tainted the vacation spot's reputation. Now only locals seem to visit the lakeside with any regularity. Curiously, what visitors they do get seem to always cut their stay short.
The Mystery Vortex
At the Northern edge of Lakewood is the infamous 'Mystery Vortex' which locals are divided on being either their town's only standing place of pride, or just another embarassment. This Mystery spot was a bustling tourist attraction for roadtrippers on the interstate up through the mid 90s, even when the appeal of Lake Clearwater ran dry. Being in decline through the 2000s, it was recently purchased and fixed up by an ambitious young local, who has successfully turned it back into a highway destination with the help of viral internet marketing and a rather sketchy youtube channel.
Lakeside Bar & Grill
One of the more popular night life destinations in Lakewood, which isn't saying much. Located just off the interstate at the eastern most edge of Lake Clearwater, it happens to be a place popular both with locals and with travelers. They're known in the area for their incredible burgers and fries and cozy atmosphere (though also unfortunately infamous for their local drunks as well). It's also a great place to pick up the local gossip.
