"You have the potential to rend the flesh of the world and carve it as you please. Come to me, my Child, and let the Church sharpen your blade."

World Notes:
- Supernatural abilities among humans are exceedingly common. While there is no limit to how severe they can be, there IS a limit to what defines a human.
- Humans with severe abilities are considered Martyrs and attributed to the work of a small pantheon of major gods. Within religious communities, Martyrs are thought to be payment to the gods for the abilities granted to mankind.
- Martyrs tend to be social outcasts, treated poorly (if they survive infancy- most severe abilities tend to be fatal, thus the moniker) by their peers. Martyrs often spurn religion, and several large congregations have founded their own cities. While Martyrs are supposedly offered the same rights as anyone else, they're often barred from human societies by legal workarounds and an absence of trustworthy authority.

- The Church of the Unpleasant tends to seek out people who have been abused. While it guarantees a safe environment where it's people will never want for food, drink, warmth, etc., it also teaches unhealthy coping mechanisms.
