Lore

Humans had always known that one day, their world would end and fall into ruin. It was inevitable – the chemicals they produced, the waste they carelessly disposed of, the pollution they created – it was all a means to bring about a devastating end. But they were not prepared for how soon it would come.

One day, it became too much. The toxins, the radiation, the damage humans had dealt to their earth – it all became too much. The ensuing fallout was catastrophic. Cities burned. Forests turned to ash. Society crumbled. Nothing escaped the ruin brought about by this new foe. The world did not have the means to fight back, and, so, it collapsed, taking all living things with it.

Although... in the strange way that life has been seen to persist in the face of catastrophe, not all perished. That included humans. Though many didn’t survive the incident that changed the world forever, some endured – albeit their society never completely recovered. Animals and plants did not possess the amount of protection that humans were capable of creating, which meant that their luck was much worse still. Many ecosystems that had been a part of the earth for millennia, supplying hundreds upon thousands of individual and unique animals with homes simply disappeared and species that otherwise thrived and endured through all other hardships brought about by humans were decimated in an instant. Yet again, however, there were survivors.

Though some plants and animals endured the fallout, much like the rest of the world, they would never be the same again. The chemicals permeating the air ate away at them, melted them, and even mutated their genes and DNA. All became but shadows of what they had once been. And yet, they fought on, adapted, lived. Some were capable of internalizing the toxins that poisoned their homes, making it a part of them; others grew resistant to them and developed an immunity. The effect on plants was particularly incredible – they seemed to grow more alive than ever, absorbing the toxins fearlessly and merging with the poison to become something new. Some plants even became carnivorous. Although, whether plant or animal, not all were capable of adapting to the new changes, and thus withered away. Those that lived, however, continued to reproduce and grow faster, as well as larger and stronger through every generation.

As the dust of the old world settled, the new world of Aarde was born. New ecosystems and habitats formed, creatures sought out new homes and a new world order had taken hold. The survival of the fittest was more prominent than ever. Creatures grew used to the notion of killing or getting killed. There was no place for weaklings in Aarde. Humans, of course, adapted to their strange new planet, too. The boldest sought out to tame the creatures of Aarde, and, over time, they have become capable of building strong connections with the strange beasts living alongside them. Together, they seek to survive on this modern earth and rebuild the once-prosperous society.

Toxic Skull Hound Lore

The Toxic Skull Hounds, similarly to other species inhabiting Aarde today, were not always as they are now. Although just like many other species, these beasts managed to hold on to their naturally-colored pelts, their otherwise drastic looks also came about as a result of the fallout that changed the earth forever...
